Quebec Separatism

Am I the only one who thinks Quebec shouldn’t separate from Canada? Read on and see my opinion on the matter.

Quebec separating from Canada has been a huge issue for a very long time. Certain residents of the Canadian province have been arguing for over twenty years now that the English do not respect the French. They say that we take them as a joke. They say we don’t respect their French language, or their religion. I strongly disagree, and I am pretty sure that I’m not the only one either. Think of the effect Quebec separatism would have on the rest of the world, but especially Canada. The Canadian provinces that lay to the east, (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia.) would be completely cut of from the rest of Canada. We would have the confusion of going through a country border, before we would be able to reach our other provinces.

It makes me upset when I hear a Quebec resident say something like “why don’t you just agree with what we have to say and live with it. Just let us separate.” You know why I hate it when people say that? It’s because the decision of Quebec separatism is to be made by the entire world, not just the province of Quebec because it affects the entire world and not just Quebec. It’s just not worth going through so much confusion and distress for what is basically no reason.

I do not rebel against Quebec residents for wanting some individuality, but what I do want is for them to understand that they are not the only ones who will be strongly affected by their decision.

For the time being, a little bit over half (or 50.1% to be specific) of Quebec voted that they would prefer NOT to be separated from Canada, so until they are convinced otherwise, Canada’s, (and the world’s) fate is going to be alright.
