Reason #2 Why I’m Still Voting Democratic in 2010
I’m still not rich enough to vote Republican.

I’m not rich enough to vote Republican.
Everyone is worried about the deficit. And while everyone is worried about the deficit, John Boehner (who will be speaker of the House if Republicans pick up the majority) wants to add money to the deficit to extend the Bush tax cuts for the top income earners in the country. By the way, the tax cuts were set to expire now because they passed it with that thing that everyone fussed about called “budget reconciliation,” which has stipulations about adding too much to the deficit.
The Democrats support extending the tax cuts in these crazy times for the middle class and below, but not for the top percentile. Boehner and the other House Republicans say that’s not good enough. We need to kill unemployment insurance in an economic disaster and spend more money to give the already-rich more tax cuts. Here’s what happens with that logic. It’s the same thing that has been happening for a while now. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. How long will we let the people who already make a ton keep telling us that giving them more tax breaks really helps us in the long run?
Take a look at Ezra Klein’s article: “Why Elections Matter In One Graph”

This is a picture of the average percent that Americans’ income grew under Republican and Democratic Presidents by income percentile. Notice that under the GOP, the top 95th percentile earners grew the most, but still grew less than under Democratic administrations.
