Reforming Our Electoral Process
Reform is needed. Here is the prescription.
Cut Election Fraud
The first thing would be to require registration at least thirty days before an election and a mailed document that had to be signed and returned by the elector as proof of valid address. No return, no vote. No, this I not disenfranchising anyone, it is insuring a valid and legal electorate. A person who moves during that time could vote by absentee ballot in the old district. Every voter must present to the courthouse or a traveling registration point to register with a birth certificate and one other form of identification. We didn’t have the ACORN crap when it was that way. This Sears Catalog registration is as bad at the Maryland Driver’s licensing system when they were mail order in the thirties. If the person can’t identify themselves, they shouldn’t vote. The person need also present identification at the polls to vote. That ID could be their voter registration card, a valid driver’s license, a utility bill with their name and their correct address or a picture ID card like the state of PA issues to non-drivers to give them a picture ID. It is one of the things PA does right. Absent that they can vote provisional and the ballot would be reviewed before being accepted. If the ballot is proven fraudulent criminal charges should be filed. If some of these went to jail the process would get cleaner fast.
Some of the idiot reasons for rejecting absentee ballots need to be removed. They are like the literacy tests of the fifties that were used to keep blacks from voting. They test to see if you can follow a perverted set of directions that are designed to make you fail and thus render your ballot invalid if they like. These are, like the literacy tests, capriciously applied. If the greater number of votes is the right way the problem is ignored. If not they are rejected.
Recounts should not be allowed to include “found” ballots unless they can be proven to have been lost and they were protected from alteration. If they could not be insured to be valid they don’t get counted. Found ballots are the source of a good percentage of election fraud and any tainting of them and their “chain of evidence” is reason to throw them out. If they were lost someone had to lose them and that person needs to step up and confess to that. There is evidence that in some close elections ballots were found after the polls closed, ones that could have easily been marked by the poll clerks! In my county the poll clerks are the same people every time, they are all from the local community, the precinct they clerk. I believe at least two clerks in each polling place should be from outside the precinct and there should be a requirement that at least two are not from the same party. Some polling places have all clerks from one party, not a good idea. If this requirement has to be met by bussing, so be it.
I believe the above would increase the accuracy of the vote without introducing requirements that are false.

You have a viable solution. What the American people let happen to Al Gore a few years ago was unforgivable. That whole election should have been throwed out and done all over again. The deciding state was Bushes brothers, Florida. If the roles were reversed, would Bush not have wanted a re-election.

Actually hfj, that election was lost for Gore by the DEMNOCRATS in DADE COUNTY FLORIDA. He lost by 537 votes, all recounts were close to that number including two done by univeristies and newspapers. They were reported but months later, after the hype that Bush stole it.
The hanging chads was crap. I was in computers in the 60’s and worked with IBM card extensively. We used the hand punches – and I voted under that system while I was in IL.
If you replace the stylus that is used to punch when it gets dull, if you replace the rubber backing on the punches when it starts to get hard, there are no hanging chads. We were also instructed to look at the back of our card when we took it out of the machine to see that the holes were fully punched out. No hanging chad or dimpled chad should ever be counted as an indication of a voters wish more than a dot on a paper ballot that could be made by touching it with a pen or pencil should be construed as an X.
The butterfly ballot was also designed by a DEMOCRAT….
Please, Gore lost the election in FL, probably by a margin larger than 1500 votes, maybe as many as 5000. But we know for sure it was over 537, the lowest margin of any recount. One recount did look at other districts with discrepancies that Gore did not want recounted, these recounts gave even larger margins to bush. This was not the work of the State Government or Jeb Bush, but the work of the local counties. The biggest discrepancies were in Democrat run counties…. About half of it looked like fraud, the other half just plain incompetence or stupidity like not doing maintenance on the voting equipment.
