Execution of Saddam

On Saturday December 30th , one of the most horrible men in the world was executed. The man was Saddam Hussein. As former dictator of Iraq , Saddam was involved in many numerous killings and genocide attempts including the death of 100,000 Kurds during the 1988 campaign against Kurdish rebels. Claims against Hussein from the UN state that he used poison mustard gas against the Kurds.

In 2002 the Bush Administration claimed that Saddam was benefiting from illicit oil sales, creating weapons of mass destruction, and using brutal force to control the Iraqi people. Iraqi Prime Minister, Tariq Aziz, says that the accusations were all untrue. Vice chairman of the Revolutionary Control Council, Izzat Ibrahim, said "Why should anybody say ‘no’ to Saddam Hussein? He is the symbol of our freedom and of our future."

The White House gave a statement of praise for the Iraqi people for giving Hussein a fair trial. "Fair trials were unimaginable under Saddam Hussein’s tyrannical rule” is part of what the statement read. Also no American s were present during the execution and it was only aired up to the placing and tying of the noose around his neck. Viewers who watched the aired segments said they could see the fear in his eyes.

During the execution there was chanting and statements made that could spark an increase in deaths between the Sunni’s and Shi’ites. After he was pronounced dead there was shouting, chanting and dancing around Hussein’s dead body.
