Sarah Palin: Show Photo as Warning
Show photo as warning to others seeking America’s destruction. No pussy-footing around, no politicking, no drama; it’s part of the mission.
Sarah Palin made this tweet earlier on 4 May. You have to wonder why she wishes the photos were published to the world; I hear the photos are available to see for American politicians and the majority of Senators do not wish to enflame people with what I assume are pretty graphic photos.
Barack Obama made the argument that, “the graphic nature of these photos, it would create a national security risk. We don’t want this floating around as incitement to additional violence or a propaganda tool. That is not who we are. We don’t trot out this stuff as trophies.”
If you analyse the statement, Barack Obama wishes to prevent national security risks developing, whereas Sarah Palin is attempting to allow damaging propaganda to develop and spread worldwide – very sensible [sarcasm], all it does is exacerbate hatred – in my opinion what she said seems mindless; imagine what would happen if she was the President?
“Show photo as warning to others seeking America’s destruction”
We must all acknowledge that either Sarah Palin is naive or she doesn’t genuinely care about American security – sometimes things need to be secret for American’s protection. The fact of the matter is, these pictures are not a deterrent for one reason: extremists or those who are radicalized see worse than pictures (hint hint: real dead bodies) on an almost daily basis, therefore it clearly cannot be a deterrent.
Publishing these photos are not consistent with American values that many around the world envy. We should be able to distinguish Americans from Al-Qaeda, publishing photo’s is no different to videos of be-headings – it’s disgusting and insensitive.
“No politicking”
Barack Obama’s decision to not disclose these photo’s has nothing whatsoever to do with politics since many people are developing their own conspiracy theories; and people are annoyed by this announcement to not show evidence of Osama’s death. Besides, authenticity issues would have always arisen if photo’s were released and I assume Obama can handle the conspiracy theories over deaths as a result of photo publishing. Besides, Osama Bin Laden’s family and Al-Qaeda have confirmed OBL’s death!
I get the feeling that Sarah Palin is trying to exploit Barack Obama’s decision, and her tweet was politically motivated, disregarding the implications: Sarah Palin’s suggestion to publish photo’s will inadvertently enable Taliban and Al-Qaeda to use photo’s as propaganda tool in their efforts to recruit Muslims. Palin should know better than most people that the West cannot be seen to “trot this stuff as trophies” for it gives the perception of gloating, which consequently increases risk to Americans. Why can’t Sarah Palin put America before party politics?
“It’s part of the mission”
The mission is bringing terrorists to justice – which the US Navy SEALS and CIA have accomplished. Another is to prevent attacks on American citizens – by being aware of the implications of publishing graphic photos, Barack Obama may have deprived terrorists and their followers what they wish to see for recruiting new followers. In my book, that’s something we should be encouraging.
As for the victims and their families – I believe justice was served, but there is no closure: end of the day, no photo or death can ever bring back those who were murdered on 9/11. All we can hope for is that every one of those victims are resting peacefully. Ultimately, we should not be inflicting psychological trauma on people if there is no value.
