Sarah Palin’s Underwear

Strangely it seems to be hitting the headlines – together with her talent for making up new words. Has she thought about Spanxing yet?

News has emerged of Sarah Palin’s campaign spending on underwear for the family. It added up to no less than 3000 dollars, not a small sum in these difficult times.

So far she hasn’t bothered to refute the figure, or even repudiate the statement. What’s more she hasn’t refudiated it either. As you know, to refute something means to prove it wrong. Repudiate means you refuse to accept the truth of a statement. Refudiate means nothing at all, so far. It is a new word she made up, as she explained when asked what it meant. She said she made the word up, just like William Shakespeare used to hundreds of years ago.

She’s right there, he made up hundreds. She’s probably familiar with them all,  hears them every day. They include, laughable, amazement, suspicious, misplaced and sanctimonious. Shakespeare also invented many phrases that will be in the Palin vocabulary any time she’s talking about government policy. Disgraceful conduct is a good one,  it’s Greek to me, another, and very useful, break the ice. But never, ever, frailty, thy name is woman! Heart of gold is much more appealing.

But you can see why Sarah would take to quoting Shakespeare. One moment he says this, the next he says that, and all the time he’s making words up. Getting back to that -

Is Sarah into Spanxing?

Just a thought, given that amongst all the underwear bought for her as she marched along the campaign trail there were so many Spanx girdles.
