Socialism vs. Capitalism

About the difference’s similarities, benefits and disadvantages between true Socialism and Capitalism.

Every one know’s what Capitalism and Socialism is, or at least they think they do…  Some based on what they “know” about each gives them a bias to side with either. Most use example’s of an attempt at either… but not the REAL thing. Let’s start comparing the two and you can decide which one you like more, Capitalism or Socialism?

First, the basic definition of Capitalism; Where the government basically pays for nothing… a free market, the people control the money. Now the basic definition of Socialism; Where the government pays for everything and takes complete care of things… everything is equal.

In theory, just based on definition Socialism sounds better, in theory. Since based on the definition, in Capitalism the people may control the money, but then also that means some people will get more then others. While is Socialism, the government controls the money and everyone gets equal amounts! See the only problem is then, if someone does more work then someone else… they still get the same payment for it and in real life that isn’t equal, it isn’t even fair.

Okay, now we have our understandings of what each is in theory, lets talk about some of the positives and negatives of each:

In Capitalism,  you have an equal chance of obtaining what is known as the American Dream, aka: Rags to Riches. Also in Capitalism, you have religious freedom and a sense of individuality. Sadly though, since Capitalism is also run by the people and Government has absolutly no control… There is the negative of having no police, firefighter’s, universal healthcare, or public school systems. All those items are run by the government, therefore having them is not capitalist. To be a true capitalist country, the people would have to pay for those nescessities themselves or go without.

In Socialism, no one goes hungry or poor. Everyone has the right to everything but at a limit. There is universal healthcare, police, firefighters, and public schooling so everyone is educated. The downside, Religion is not allowed in a true Socialist society which could lead to much prosecution. Also, there is a need for extreme control on the people, since some may try to take advantage of such a government, but this is reality… not theory.

Anyways, now people have some information on each goverments, which side are you on?

Socialism DOES allow for religious freedom, Communism doesn’t. That is one of the huge reasons people fear Socialism and it’s not even true. What you said about huge government control is definitely a huge downside. Not that the government control is bad, because in essence we form the government through voting. However, Socialist Republics are corrupt. Socialist true democracies (almost none exist) people vote for issues as oppossed to candidates. This leaves for a lot less room for corruption. As for the rags to riches in a Capitalist economy, it’s fantasy. Parts of India are completely Capitalist. No government involvment whatsoever. You can go down the streets of Mumbai and see children playing in feces and 12 years old getting paid next to nothing to support the family. Then you can go up the street and a luxorious mansion. You see in true Capitalism there isn’t government regulation, meaning no minimum wage or standdards for treatment of employees. So these working class people can get paid $10 a week for 80 hours of work. Which will provide them with enough money to live (In India, not America of course) but it would be virtually impossible for them to advance. A) they can’t get an education because you must pay for it and B) they can’t save money to form a business or recieve start up loans. So pure Capitalism creates a ruling class and the poor and the ruling class can lose it’s status but the poor really can’t escape it. We have seen this slowly forming since the 1960’s as people embraced the free market and tried to cut down on restrictions.
