Students AND Politics
Aristotle said – Man is a social animal. Plato had said – Man is a political animal.
Much before Aristotle said – Man is a social animal. Plato had said – Man is a political animal. To keen him away from politics is rather cruel.
But, should students participate in politics ? This is a question that calls for serious consideration.
Paradoxically enough it is the leaders who use students and exploit them for their political ends – who put an objection to their participation in politics. Obviously, they want to keep away the students from the power game. To say, the leaders do not want students to replace them. If the students are allowed to be active in power-politics, definitely the reader’s status would be endangered. The students could in this sage, replace the leaders. That why, whereas the leaders want students in politics – so that they could exploit them for heir own selfish ends – they ward off any danger of students tasting power-politics.
They argue that active policies would spoil the academic career of the students. To an extent, this is true. If the student devote a considerable amount of their time to policies, their main aim-education-would be lost. So, of course, studies should be the first concern of the students. But, do we want our youth to remain sleeping and ignorant while all is going wrong and corrupt ? Obviously, no. It is here that we need our students. Only in young blood do we find a selfless love for their country plus courage and energy to dare the most dangerous.
History is an evidence that all over the world, the destiny of a nation has been determined by its youth. In India itself there are many such instance where and when students left their studies for the sake of their motherland. During the fight for freedom, it was youth who left schools and colleges to join the fight. Only very recently, a few years back, on the call of late JP the students of Bihar and Gujarat had willingly postponed their academic career.
So, it is decided that the students, the youth play a vital role in the making of a nation’s history. Much depends on the youth.
We should recommend participation in politics by student. But they should not neglect their studs. Only when it is very urgent, as in case of an emergency of external threats, shoud they be advised to do so. It must be believed that a healthy practicer of politics among students should be encouragement but a mild goading is necessary.
