Summary of Politics

A comentary of the change in politics in the past fifty years.

By Tom O’Domirok

Based on my personal experience and education with the United States Government. I was born in the fifties, raised as a child in the sixties, became a man in the seventies, a father in the eighties, family man in the nineties, and senior status in the first decade of the twenty first century. Fifty six years of political history.

“The United States of America has gone from government of the people, simple and trustworthy, to government of corporations, scandalous and assertive.” By mid twentieth century government developed in to a modern machine with the help of technology, and at the time, the trust of the people being governed. But by the end of the century government was big business and big brother controls a majority of the rights of citizens. Assertive by imposing regulations that are not funded, thus increasing local and state government. Scandalous by lying to voters by campaigning on promises that are not kept once in office. Crime committed by government is passed off as necessary to national security.

All of this hit the fan as the monopolies of business were exposed to corruption, by larger corporations. Greed led to misleading government programs in to bankruptcy, and as the stock market crashed the housing market crashed throwing the economy into a depression as early as 2000. Government leniency to criminal practices in corporate operations led to continuous corporate take overs. Political candidates pledge to change but never deliver and often become part of the machine. Citizens have gone from feeling safe and comfortable to scared and worried about how much more rights will be taken away.

Population on the increase is a factor in this change and a social issue that has been ignored for decades. The majority of people demand more government services which increases the cost of doing business. Thus increasing taxes and creating new taxes. In comparison business have followed the same pattern. They have all diversified and merged to control a monopoly and government is in favor. The courts are in favor of corporate giants and the small business man pays the bill.

Of cursed the dollar has changed. Value is based on mythical statistic and not on the amount of gold in the federal reserve. The dollar is worth less now than in the eighteen fifties and does not buy as much. The working “man” became the “working couple” in my generation and put women the same work force as men. This changed family life where children were raised by day care and schools not by mom and dad. Personal values change from being helpful and honest when doing business, to deceive with a style of grace and power. It’s OK to stretch the truth in advertising. Every store has savings and really no one is saving anything at all.

The two party political system could be the problem. Candidates appear and disappear before a voter in some states get to chose. Judicial candidates are financially backed by many big corporations. Supreme Court decide the way elections and presidential offices are preceded. Lobbyist are all over the legislative branch persuading. True or not it is there and beware what you hear. Voters don’t elect officials, corporations elect offices and lobby for policies in favor. Bills in the congressional section of government are controlled by majority party and bi partisan is just a word. Who is in control ?
