The American Shuffle

We are a socialist nation. All kinds of services are provided to you at the simple price of a big pot we all contribute to through tax dollars. We are a capitalist nation. We buy, buy, buy and enable corporations to get bigger and bigger, leaving us with fewer choices. The spotlighted issue of health care demonstrates the bridge between these types of systems. Should we burn it or reinforce it with better cables?

There is a magic potion for every little ache and pain and you can get it for three easy installments of $19.95!  Call now and we’ll give you an extra one absolutely free!  For any little minor problem, there is another drug to take care of it.  Wait, you have AIDS?  Well there’s no cure for that, silly.  There aren’t enough people with AIDS to make money off of a cure, so there’s no one out looking for one.  Oh, you just have a little cancer, huh?  Well, we can treat you right away.  That will be 79,678 dollars and eleven cents please.  Oh, you don’t have it?  Does your insurance company?  Oh.  I see.

If you go home after this discussion with your doctor and your house catches on fire later in the evening, the fire department will eventually come to douse it free of charge.  That’s called socialism.  If you escape the house with severe third degree burns, you will need one of those fire trucks to fill with the money  you need to pay for it.  That’s called capitalism.  At the same time, the more money you have, the more money the hospital will take from you.  That’s stealing.

In order to protect your money from being stolen, you have to pay an insurance company.  That’s a laissez fair system.  That’s a laissez fair system without any government control.  There is no law involved anywhere with any side of this.  It because socialism doesn’t work and capitalism doesn’t work.  Laws don’t work.  People break them all the time.  Do you know why?  People made these things up to best suit their own interests.  They didn’t make them to suit everyone’s.  Laws don’t exist.  They are things we wrote on paper.

If everyone lived with consideration for everyone else, either capitalism or socialism would work.  That also means they’d work together just fine with no system.  Our system gets shuffled around because people don’t agree.  They aren’t considerate to each other.  People are by nature a very selfish creature.  Do you know why it’s all so confusing?  People are confusing.  We can’t agree, so there really is no answer.  Try to convince people to live together in peace and get shot in the head.

We stumble along through the decades making a little progress here and there. The only thing to fear is giving up!
