The Av Voting System
Basic information on the AV voting system.
This applies strongly to Britain at the moment as the voting members of public will have the chance to decide whether England is to change their way of voting.
At the moment you simpily cross the box of the candidate who you want to be voted in, the candidate with the most crosses wins.
The AV system offers you to vote for all of the candidates but in order of your favourite to your lease favourite. If one party gets 50% or more of the 1st choice votes then they are automatically voted in. If there is no party with the majority of the votes then the least popular candidate will be knocked out and will have it’s votes distributed amongst the other candidates. If then one party/candidate has more than 50% of the votes then they are voted in if not the next lowest candidate’s votes are shared amongst the remaining candidates/parties. This continues until there is one party left with the majority of the votes.
How will this benafit the voting system?
The idea is that the votes are more even as people may have equal opinions of parties but will have to choose only one candidate to vote for. This should make voting fairer. It should also prevent another coilation as there can only be one winner.
