The Beginning of The End of Democracy in The United States of America
More and more we go through time, the lesser our liberties are. But the question is, who is truly taking away those liberties?
As time goes by in the first year of Obama’s presidency, America is mourning deeply. Not only because of the recent death of one of the last true senator, but because of the cancer that is plaguing the whole country, affected the principles it stands for.
From a country claiming to be a promoter of democracy around the great planet of ours by entering in an unconstitutional war, a country claiming to be fighting terrorism while being the only country ever accused of World Terrorism, the rest of the world can only find the situation ironic.
<I hate what your writing, but I would give my life for you to continue to write>
Probably one of the best quote by Frenchman Voltaire, basically meaning that even though some may disagree on issues, it is part of democracy that all views can be heard. Furthermore, that right is worth dying for, even if it is profitable to the other ideology.
Yet, even in a democratic country, signs of oppression appears from all side. The current health care reform debate is the perfect example of the situation. For the conservative side, riots during honest debates take place everywhere, with strong media like FOX and big insurance corporations pushing those riots in order to continue and make billions out of the American people. Worst, people bearing guns have appeared near those peaceful debate. The second amendment is probably the most obsolete of all. Only in the US, contrary to almost all other developed nation, do we seem to have an absolute love for our guns. However, the context in which it was written was during a Revolution, during a time of oppression by a foreign power. Not only are we the foreign power in Iraq, we are the foreign power within our own borders. When the people start to oppress the people, we can be certain that we become more and more like the one we claim we want to destroy, the TERRORist.
However, liberals aren’t all clean either. They try to bring the blame on the other guy. Even though it is still too early to pass a judgement on the decisions of the current administration, we can say without doubt that the Democrats are now in power, so they need to take full responsability of where the country is going. Also, one of the fundamental problem of the liberals is that they are racist within their own race. They treat republicans like inferior members of the country, thinking they all cling to their guns and religions, thus not worth listening too.
Both sides need to address some issues, for the respect of everyone’s right to an opinion is the base of democracy. Until then, we can truly say that it is the beginning of the end of democracy, in the land of the free.
