Attorney General of the United States, Eric Holder, has been advanced that the prosecution sought the death penalty for all five.

The court will be tried where the ‘brains’ of 11-S is close to where stood the twin towers of the World Trade Center, destroyed in the attack that killed more than 3,000 people.

The other four suspects are included in processing Waleed bin Atash, Ramzi Bin al Shibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa al Hawsawi.

Barack Obama Administration announced its intention to close the controversial prison in Cuba and the island of U.S. territory to transfer some of the prisoners so they can be tried under the laws of the country. The Congress opened the door to this possibility in October.

From Japan, where he is visiting, the U.S. president said: “Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is subject to the most stringent demands of justice” because they asked “the American people.”

Despite White House efforts, some detainees will face military tribunals. This is the case of Abd al Rahim al Nashiriel, the mastermind of the attack on the warship USS Cole, carried out in Yemen in 2000.

The White House must work against the clock to meet Obama’s promise to close Guantanamo before 20 January. Indeed, some presidential aides have publicly acknowledged that it will be very difficult to carry out this task according to the schedule.
