The Communists Fear Democracy
How the Communists can phase in Democracy and save their people from a horrible Stockholm Syndrome life.
Democracy; the Communist nation’s greatest fear
They have been sold a bill of goods; that Democracy is subversive;
It holds sexual and other evils. They are correct!
History of the Problem
Whether we who live under the political system of Democracy like to believe it or not, Democracy was not born in the USA. It was born in Greece thousands of years ago. Demosthenes, a philosopher, offered ideas on what democracy could be like; voting, equality, fairness and courts to protect the weak.
The Hebrew, Jesus, also shared some similar ideas with the people of his generation
but again, removing power from the Caesar was scary-and mutinous.
Inevitably, victims of authoritarian leaderships around the world continued to demand rights that only the dictator’s hand picked people could get. Intermittently, the bottom class of citizens went on work strikes to demand equal rights. Only rarely did the dictators care about the benefits to society inherent in equality.
Problem
With universities, and with world wide communications, the few remaining pure Communist nations are finding that listeners to public opinion about the benefits to Democracy are asking
age old questions, such as “how will we preserve our culture? How will we insure equality? How will we insure our leaders keep their dignity and safety in society?
Like battered women the world over, sociologists find that often, a women accepts a battering
as a price to pay for having the rent /mortgage paid, other bills paid and that she is safe if she submits to intermittent beatings. Some women are conditioned that men are the leader and if he chooses to lay an angry hand on his wife, that is his legal right. This is carried over to the political system in the country; who has what rights? If we must change these rights, how do we do so smoothly so that we don’t have a civil war or a break-down of the “ways things are?”
Perhaps more important, is the political power that specific comrades have been granted; how can new laws guaranteeing equality and recourse for victims also protect the village chiefs and other politicians? This is being debated in Socialist nations around the world daily-no one wants to give up power, no matter how they came to have it.
As this paper had in its title, there is a age old philosophy that sometimes, it is necessary to kill the germ or virus to stop its spread and sometimes, that virus is recognized in the form of freedoms that people want-demand!
The churches in the US have debated this problem for hundreds of years and it is still not settled to everyone’s satisfaction; thus, we have several levels of law; federal, state, county and city/village. Sometimes, it is better to leave some laws to the local people until they diverge from the state or federal law[s].
For example, what is pornography? A judge said ages ago “I know it when I see it.” When is it legal and when is it illegal, etc. The church wants it banned, the purveyor wants “hands off.”
The purists in the church want a heavy hand made legal against women as the right of the man. To solve these kinds of problems, we have “separation of church and state.” This of course, stops dead in its tracks in Iraq and Afghanistan which have religious components in their constitution. And in Communist nations, there is a vacuum of religious rights.
Significance of the Problem
What is the big deal, through, if China, N. Korea, Russia [yes, Russia] and Cuba plus other nations] keep Communism and Socialism and non-equality of the sexes and no tort law?
Let’s go back to the Greeks philosophers and university research on the difference between
how people grow and [become productive and keep mental health] under democratic political systems. There is no doubt about the benefits to one’s society when that society changes to Democracy from other political forms. If “fairness” is a problem, the government can give fat pension checks to the old guardians of oppression and ask that they quietly disappear into the wood work. A nations definition of respect for the elderly is interesting if it can crush spirit with Communism but demand respect for one’s elders.
China, as of now, has “favorite nations” status. That is like giving a hero’s medal to the neighborhood bullies for not beating everyone every day.
While the US Government has granted said rights to the Chinese, it seems to be without
requirements or qualifications. China has, thus, demonstrated superb negotiation skills to require the right to be socially subversive and not have to give up anything. China has also used its temporary economic might to play the biggest game of cards in history; buying 100 billion worth of US securities that it can threaten to cash in at any time it is unhappy with American political pressure on its human rights violations.
If the US were to move its purchasing programs to other nations that are democratic, the Communist system would fold in a few years. It would because like asses, the US is subsidizing the Communist Political system. It is doing so by buying Communist made goods. Also, if we stop buying oil from others, Arabia, the biggest Socialist -group of monarchies, would fold in one year.
Methodology
The author, a business consultant and college business teacher, has done primary research, and reviewed secondary literature regarding political systems and their positive and negative consequences world-wide.
Considerations:
Communist leaders are logically fearful of democracy and their loss of power. However, what the Chinese Politburo fails to realize is that their rights and command of the Chinese people
is tentative. No government structure or group of rules lives forever unless the people want it to.
The outside world considers China a unique place; capitalism exiting to a limited degree, beauty that is not duplicatable, yet people the world over are either fearful of China or wish to ignore it exists. Blatant human rights violations are seen as a disease, a villain, something to be stopped at any cost. The UN an almost every nation on earth is saying “get some chutzpah and stop this crap!” In the mean time, like the spoiled children that the politburo is, they say in response “why are you bothering with our sovereign nation rules and laws?” That, of course, is what a psychopathic person says in response to logic. “What I do I do for my survival.”
Maybe that part of you, like a cancer, is best removed.
Let’s take a business consultants perspective now, not a purely political one. [Especially
because this paper author is a business consultant.]
WE are dealing with aq company set of policies. [Yes, it is a constitution but it is the same as the rules of a company] The challenge is not hard, nor is a solution; how to apply said policies? How do the Communist leaders install Democracy so that everyone wins?
1. Some policies must be inviolate and others policies must be so flexible that you can toss them at whim! (Drugs in the store vs. operating hours)
Store policies are valuable and necessary for all merchants: they remind the manager/owner and all employees (full time, seasonal, temporary and others) about check cashing, taking things out of the store for the employee’s use, when vendors should come to demonstrate or introduce/sell to the merchant, how often mark-downs should be taken, how to deal with irate customers, etc.
Other store polices ought to describe how to handle robberies, break-ins, promotions, reimbursement for school, vacations, et al.
A store policy is a safety valve and a timely up-date on how best to manage the business–therefore, a policy needs to be examined fairly regularly (monthly?) and removed, modified or simply examined to see if the way the community and the business respond and deal with each other makes each store policy relevant and most appropriate for current operations. In short, don’t wind up with policies remaining on your books that suggest your employees take an hour off on Sunday morning for church, or that ladies will not date employees or customers or marry while in your employee–such policies will get the store owner in court for breaking a myriad of federal laws!
Here is where the federal, state, county and city laws come into effect: Only have, for a store policy, the technical actions needed to be taken in case of some rather major problem and the boss cannot be located. When the store owner is very savvy, he/she will let the store employees do whatever their common sense and business experience guide them to do! If the employees act like children its usually because they have been treated like children. If the employees have been treated like adults and given continuous responsibility, these same employees can defuse troublesome situations or find their own very viable solutions to episodes of need if YOU LET THEM! A chain of command is not bad if someone must be held responsible! (maybe one strong person will try and override the person thought to be in charge until the weaker, real temporary boss, is identified as such! If the boss is a quality boss, no matter what the decision is of the person in charge, the boss will, as close and as much as can be done, leave the decision alone and back it up! If the person making the judgement screws up royally, the boss needs to increase the training, quietly or privately, of the preferred person in charge to assure the boss that volatile situations or power struggles will be quelled quickly by the person known to be in charge when the boss is out!
Thus, like a business, each level of government needs to create its own local laws/policies, that are not applicable at the federal level. While each level of government begins writing
its laws and policies, the government “rule” writer must make sure all [employees, customers and others] are all treated fairly in all policies!
When the US Constitution was created, it was found to have a fantastic background and premise but lacking in many specificities; thus, the Bill of Rights was added later. And more was added and more and more over the decades that followed. This was acceptable to the lawmakers since the constitution was and is considered a living body of philosophy and law.
So, the Politburo can copy the entire US constitution and Bill of Rights and the laws of some “desired” states and see what they can come up with that mimics us yet keeps their culture preserved.
If they want to offer equality and use of the internet [just like our Prohibition, it lasted only a few years because it made no sense and the Chicago Mob fought it daily. It would up helping no one. Thus, proving that some laws are poor laws because they seem to only help specific groups of people and not the majority.
Laws can be introduced on a temporary basis; that occurs all the time with local ordinances.
Laws, like tax changes, can be phased in. Also, let’s look at history from a different perspective; love and hate and admire and despise. The entire population recognizes that the Stockholm Syndrom is being played out and are not sure of the best way to say “I want out.” The Stockholm Syndrom is when the kidnaped victim begins to love the kidnapper-it is easier to love than to hate. Less mental anguish, among other things. In time, after being freed, the kidnaped get angry again and need lots of counseling. Over a billion Chinese are going to need counseling since the Communist system kidnaped a nation and holds it ransom still. Actually, there is no ransom so that even makes it worse. It is also like the father of a family saying “I don’t trust your judgment, so, while I failed as a father, I will keep rule over you–for life.” Sad.
The Chinese leaders have no dignity; that was lost in order to accept Communism as a political -governmental approach. They rule by fear and theft.
They have a choice; in very public steps, phase from Communism into Democracy.
Or stay in the history books as a political body that kidnapped an entire people and held it hostage, regardless of “good intentions.”
