The Crisis in The BJP

A brief analysis of the BJP from the year 2004 to the present times.

Once again the Bharatiya Jana ta Party is in utter crisis and confusion,it seems that bad luck or ill-omen had engulfed the party since 2004,when the B.J.P was voted out of office and its arch-rival the congress party had come to power. Before the general elections of2004 the party was confident that it would win the general elections, already bolstered by winning the state assembly elections of Madhya pradesh, chattisgarh and Rajasthan ,the party thought that it would win the coming General Elections Scheduled in 2004.The party launched the shining India Campaign in the hope of wining the minds of the electorates, however much to their expectations the party lost.Since than the party has been sinking into a deep crisis.Debates soon engulfed the Party of who was responsible for the party’s deb acle.L.k Advani took charge of the defeated party While A.B Vajpayee remained in the background due to health problems and advanced age, within the party there were clashes of personality.Uma Bharti was expelled from the party for her outbursts against Advani . As a opposition party the B.J.P utterly failed and it took every opportunity to attack the congress led U.P.A Government making the people of India to see how opportunist the party was.Going to the next year 2005 the party further sunk into a deep crisis when Advani on his visit to Pakistan said  that Mohammed Ali Jinnah the founding father of Pakistan was a secular man and heaped praises on Jinnah.

.

This was not liked by R.S.S and he was forced to resign as President of the B.J.P however he withdrew his resignation as the party needed him.The R.S.S the Right-Wing Hindu nationalists blamed that due to ideological deviations the party lost in 2004 and demanded that Senior B.J.P leaders like Former Prime MinisterAtal Bihari Vajpayee and L.k. Advani   resign from the party and give way to the younger generation of leaders. In 2007 the Party showed once more its opportunistic face on the Indo -U.S nuclear deal, the party was  not anti-U.S like the Communists but it lost no opportunity to attack the Government. In 2008 it voted against the U.P.A in the no-confidence motion but the U.P.A survived boosting the image of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister ManmohanSingh thus dealing a shattering blow to the party’s image and despite all the hopes that the B.J.P would win the 2009 elections the party suffered a humiliating defeat and the Congress led U.P.A continued got the second term.In the next article i shall try to cite the main causes for the crises in the Party.
