The game remains take it or lose it
in America
There is no doubt that the 2008 US election is historic in the sense that it enabled an African American to ascend to the throne (presidency). True, it has a profound implication for all Africans, African Americans at best. It is my belief that its impression is immense for some tyrant African leaders who are always rapacious to sustain power in their hands till they die.
My main attempt isn’t to criticize African leaders rather it is to voice my comment on the election and its impression it left on some African Americans.
When I was reading Liza Mundy’s biography of Michelle Obama I found a very impressive expression which doesn’t seem to come out of a 10 years old girl.” It means I can imagine any thing for myself”. As to the writer Michelle met the girl when she was campaigning for her husband.
The girl said to her, “If Obama wins the presidency it will be historical”. When Michelle asked the girl what that meant to her, she replied the above quotion10. I believe this little girl’s expression should be the motto of every African Americans.
The black communities are much more excited in this election than the whites. No wonder about that but some blacks are taking the victory awry. Obama himself has made it clear that he reached this stage because his white grand parents sacrificed a lot to shape him. His partner Michelle also candidly and repeatedly witnessed the involvement of her parents for her success.
It is indeed naïve of one to expect a fortune to come down from Heaven for blacks because a black president is elected in America. Obama’s success shouldn’t make blacks deify him rather it should induce them to work harder to achieve even more.
It is indisputable; many of today’s blacks have little wealth to bequeath their children, as they didn’t inherent any from their parents. But there is one thing that differentiates the two. For centuries the blacks of this country were deprived of the country’s resource. This in return has made life to perpetuate in a kind of vicious circle for blacks. Today though blacks are born poor they are free to share the country’s resource. It is the responsibility of each and every black to make their children future life auspicious if not theirs. As long as they have the fortitude to take advantage of the opportunity before them, it is much easier to ameliorate the living condition of their kids.
