The Healthcare Shell Game Continues
Guiliani finally came forward with his healthcare reform plan. There is more than meets the eye here.
Rudy Giuliani is the latest to speak up about healthcare reform. Obviously, he joins the rest of the candidates and current President Bush in missing the point. Frankly, I don’t know why you are sitting back and taking it. The problem is not just embedded in the political system. No, it like a splinter under the skin of the voting public as well. The longer you left it there, the greater the possibility it will get fester and get infected.
Rudy Tooty
Many of the analyst pointed out that Giuliani’s plan sounded a lot like the Bush plan. The difference? Bush never resorted to a combover but his ears still stick out just like the flaws in the plan. The reason smells like a conflict of interest in corporate ties and aspirations. Of course, Bush doesn’t need corporations to further his political career as Rudy does. Bush needs them to invest in his future endgame. Maybe the folks at Enron or Cheney’s Halliburton will help him out on that. As for Giuliani he released a prestatement that he would present his platform on Healthcare Reform in advance of his not so much revelations.
This made me wonder how prepared for this election is this man? Let’s face it as early as November 2006 it was made known Healthcare Reform would be a major issue of the campaign. Did the former Mayor of New York forget to read that memo or maybe Bernie Kerik kept it as a keepsake. His effort struck me as an “Oh Yeahism” reminiscent of Dick Martin in the old Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In TV show. Maybe he and GW can team up after the election to resurrect the show for the 21st century.

The Concept
The plan dubbed “The Anti Hillary Care Plan” provides a fifteen thousand dollar tax break to voters to be spent on healthcare coverage. “Hillary Care” is more pointed to a socialized healthcare program. The Giuliani “Bush type plan” calls for the taxpayer to be more responsible for their own coverage. It’s core belief is that by doing this the insurance companies will be forced to compete and lower prices. The premiere quality is the opposite of the Clinton proposal because it keeps the burden off the government.
The Flaws
This truly needs serious “I hope you packed a lunch” type of attention. Instead I will avoid the “War and Peace” version and refer to a portion of the Cliffnotes. First and foremost is neglecting a major player in the “The American Healthcare Crisis.” Insurance coverage providers. HMO really stands for two differing acronyms. If you are a customer it stands for Heavily Monetized Operations. If you are a doctor or supplier seeking reimbursement it stands for Holding More Out.
Why is it politicians pay more attention to the needs of a guy on a yacht swilling Dom Perignon and eating caviar saying “Hey, you can’t do this to me” then a family on the brink of bankruptcy with major health expenditures? Of course Rudy will point out I am exaggerating a bit. He would be right. Some of those families already went through bankruptcy. The major flaw is the insurance companies will continue to raise their prices and lower coverage benefits. While the Giuliani point of keeping the government out of this mess is sounds good, it is unrealistic. Thanks to the companies themselves the government will have to play some sort of role in this process.
Reject The Ostriches
You know the politicians sticking their heads in the sand. (I was being polite here) Do I think a candidate will come forth and address the whole problem? No, not at the cost of corporate campaign dollars. Of course there is a way to get realistic movement on this cause. It comes down to your the voter taking care of that splinter I mentioned at the start. Let it be known you are pulling out your support and withholding your vote.
Don’t be fooled by Hillary exploiting children and showing cleavage. Don’t wait for Barrack Obama to remember what he said last week. (Oprah should be embarrassed.) Don’t let John Edwards stand there and tell you he has a plan to get a plan. Don’t wait for the classic Giuliani “You may have a point there.” Speak up and be heard now.

has a slogan, “We need you as much as you need us.” The time is now. In the 70’s and 80’s Ted Kennedy foretold how we were mortgaging our tomorrow in concerns to healthcare. It is now the 21st century and that tomorrow has come and gone by many yesterday’s ago.
