The Second Man From Hope

Former Governor Mike Huckabee is moving up in the polls, nationally and in Iowa.

Governor Mike Huckabee of Hope, Arkansas is making strong noises, that may well push
him into being the Republican nominee for President of the United States in 2008.
The republican voter population is not very satisfied with their choices for president this time
around. Mayor Giuliani has all kinds of issues currently, that he is trying to deal with, including
Hampton gate, involving his former mistress, now his wife and his association with the indicted
former Commissioner, Mr. Kerik. Former Governor Romney is losing ground nationally
and in Iowa, due to the disenchantment by the republican base with his Mormon faith. Former
Senator Fred Thompson made a moderate splash after waiting and waiting to enter the race,
but has since failed to deliver substantial policy information or live up to expectations. Senator
John McCain, maybe the one republican with a good chance to beat either Senator Clinton or
Senator Obama, does not have the cash reserves so far, to go the distance.

So who is taking advantage of all of this, Former Governor Huckabee, moving on up the line,
tied currently with Mitt Romney in Iowa, second behind Rudy Giuliani nationally.
This turn of events is giving Mr Romney a little pause, he has put so much money into this race
that, it is sure to give his campaign staff and the candidate himself a terrible case of the blues.
Mr. Huckabee has spent, probably about one percent of what Mr. Romney has spent so far.
With his resulting surge in the polls, he is proving to be “the little engine that could”.
Mr. Huckabee’s affability and his performance in the debates, has him gaining popularity with
his republican constituents. He is a very likeable individual, by more than just the republican
voters, independents and some democrats are also impressed. The Evangelical community
seems to be squarely behind him according to news reports. There will surely be bumps
in the road and he will be tested, as well he should be, but for now Mr. Huckabee is looking like
the dark horse who is making his move.

Mr. Huckabee has a cheerful personality, he is good at delivering one liners, he is funny, with a
great sense of humor and intelligent. Most of all, he appears genuine, which is a breath of fresh air.
So here comes another credible candidate from Hope, the funds have to come in for him to go
forward, but he is drawing people and money to his campaign which is very positive.

It will be a little while before we know, if Hope Arkansas, will have the distinction of producing
two presidents, the first being Former President Bill Clinton. Mr. Huckabee’s shoe-string budget,
has so far served him very well and he does not seem to be slowing down, he even has Chuck
Norris bringing up the rear. How can the little engine fail? Stay tuned.

I like it. But I think Romney is losing out for a lot better reasons than his mormon faith. He took it for granted that he was leading. Some of the republican counterparts were running rather arrogant campaigns, they refused to go to certain debates or do certain things, and its nipping them in the bud. I think if Huckabee wasn’t in the running, it would be a democratic year. But not anymore.

Thanks for commenting. I think you are right, Mr. Romney was feeling like he had it all under control and then he looked around and Mr. Huckabee was nipping at his heels. So now Mr. Huckabee is tied at the top with Mr. Giuliani in the national polls. It appears that Mr. Giuliani’s campaign is falling apart. So Mr. Huckabee may be the standard bearer for the party. If Hillary keeps it up with the silly antics between her and Bill and her staff, it’s going to backfire and if she turns off enough voters, John Edwards may emerge as the nominee.
    Please stop by anytime.

There is hope… but how difficult it will be to bring the right man/woman to presidency.
