On local politics.

You must have heard of politicians on party-spree. Meaning, they keep on transferring from one political party to another every now and then, depending on where they can be assured of political protections.

This is very true among pluralistic democracy, wherein, multi-party system is practiced for countries like Philippines. Unlike in the United States of America, party loyalty is very much visible among politicians, being in two-party system. And to jump party readily cannot escape public attention.

“Political butterflies“” is the best description for politicians who do not show party loyalty. More suited than ever, they are opportunist waiting any chances to grab in advancing their political career. These are the politicians who do not deserve credence for public service for they might as well prefer their selfish interest than the good of the majority. For democracy implies the subservience of the few to advance the interest of the many.

The year 2010 is fast approching. This is the year wherein the Filipinos will decide who would be the next batch of leaders to hold the reign of governance for the next six years. Some surpising developments in the political arena has been observed. Paramount is the alliances of former critics in politics turned  good tandem for their candidacy.

With this kind of scenario they portray, how could the people rely their words of promises to uplift the country from poverty?

One American president had eloquently said, “think not what your country can do for you but think what you can do for your country”. Leaders in the world should give up their selfish interest and ambition if we are to build an ideal community. A good , affluent and peaceful society is the only most effective weapon against violence and terrorism. As John Stuart Mill said; “Law creates happiness” in the society.

I hope Filipinos can learn from the experiences of advance countries to build the aspired society in the future.
