To What Extent Should We be Critical of American Foreign Policy?

If criticism is warranted, can we be critical of the USA in a way that offers alternative ways of thinking/behaving yet maintains their respect and dignity?

To what extent should we be critical of the American foreign policy? Personally I feel that the American foreign policy is a solid foundation to deal with arising problems, however there are a few current events in which the United States is being hypocritical. The United States wants to take a more neutral approach in their foreign policy, George W. Bush states that “Bullying and intimidation are not an are not acceptable ways to conduct foreign policy in the 21st century.” This statement I feel they have lived up to, the U.S. foreign policy also states that it will not help another country achieve democracy, this is because they think democracy will fail because democracy needs to develop out of internal condition, that is one of the main reasons that the U.S. is still in Iraq.

In order for the U.S. to correlate it’s actions between what it is doing and it’s foreign policy it needs to rethink its position on a few international subjects. The most prominent is the war in Iraq. Should they stay and rebuild the political and economic structure to the full extent? Personally I feel that the U.S. should pull out of Iraq as soon as they possibly can, after the political structure of Iraq has been stabilized and renewed. Along with this I also believe that the economic structure in Iraq is tied very closely to the political cabinet, so when the political structure in Iraq stabilizes the economic sector in Iraq will follow suit.

Another key issue I think is the representation of the United States in the form of missiles. In Europe the U.S. is stationing missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic even the Russian Federation has opposed this along with the majority of Poles and Czech’s, yet the U.S. still intends to follow through with this. I don’t agree with the U.S. on this decision because they are going against what they stand for freedom-wise. By denying the Poles and Czechs their freedom by following through with this the U.S. falls under the category of hypocrisy because they are denying the majority decision of Poles and Czechs.

Overall I feel that the American foreign policy needs serious revamping to correlate with future president Barack Obama’s views. That being said I think at this particular point in time the American foreign policy does have anything going well for it but hypocrisy. With the new president coming into office in the very near future I think the foreign policy will change for the better, how much nobody knows at the moment but I feel that it will be positive with a new left wing President. With a new director of foreign policy I think the United States could be headed in a better direction.

With these contributing problems I think that the United States should be criticized heavily on their foreign policy, or lack thereof a basic structure that is followed. This is an extremely serious and heavily influential part of the government and the U.S. government is brushing it off as if it is nothing, a big change is need and it needs to be drastic. I think that if the United States figures this out they will potentially gain more trading partners to help bring them out of this huge recession. The U.S. must act on this issue and act now if it is to regain worldwide trust, currently the U.S. as a nation worldwide is doing what it pleases and I feel that is not right and that must be dealt with accordingly.
