U.S. Health Care Bill Signed

I watched President Barack Obams sign our Health Care Bill this morning. I snapped his photo as he signed while Marcelas Owens stood beside him. This young boy lost his 27 year old mother three years ago because she had no health insurance and couldn’t afford treatment. What a shame for the U.S. Hopefully after 2014 it will never happen again.

Our Health Care Bill Passed

I watched President Barack Obama sign the Health Care Bill this morning with Marcelas Owens standing beside him. The boy’s mother died 3 years ago because she had no health insurance and couldn’t afford treatment. What an unspeakable shame. Otherwise, today was one of the proudest, happiest days of my life. I voted for President Obama with the hope he would do something great for our country. And, he did it. He got the Health Care Bill passed in spite of the opposition. It will be 2014 before the full coverage takes effect but some effects will be felt right away.

Young people can stay on the family health insurance till age 26. A third of young people in their 20s are uninsured so it will be a relief for families with kids in their 20s. Seniors will get some help who fall in the doughnut hole on insurance Medicare plan D. $250 isn’t much for some seniors who have huge medication bills but it will help.

Other reforms starting this year will prevent insurance companies from canceling policies of people who get sick, from denying coverage to children with medical problems, and from putting lifetime limits on policies. Insurance companies still hold some of the reins for the present, as far as insurance premiums go, and they will take every advantage to scoop it in while they can.

Obama’s plan also includes a program for the most vulnerable, uninsured people who can’t get insurance coverage because of major health problems. It will provide protection from now until 2014 when the full Health Care Bill takes effect

Tax increases will come early and some Medicare cuts to seniors. Subsidies to help low income families buy insurance will come later. Many families are still without insurance. That combination keeps the cost to taxpayers just under a trillion in the first ten years, as Obama promised.

In 2014 Insurance companies will be required to take all applicants. They can’t turn folks down because they are sick or have chronic diseases. States will set up insurance supermarkets and people will buy their own insurance, pooling together to get the purchasing clout government workers have now. Those refusing to buy will pay fines to the IRS.

Tax credits will go to help pay premiums to middle class and working families. Medicaid will be expanded to cover more low income people. Families making up to $88,000 for a family of four will be eligible for assistance. The most generous aid, including help and co payment deductibles will be for those on the lower to middle rungs of the income scale.

This is just an overview of the whole Bill. In the following days I will do more research and bring it more up to date. Remember we have more than 2000 pages in this Bill. If I have anything wrong I will try to correct it. The full effects of the Health Care Bill won’t be felt until 2020, if I am correct, but it is a good beginning and is more than many working people have had before. It makes me appreciate that our President is trying to take care of his people. I could just stand up and shout, Hip, Hip, Hooray for President Obama.

That’s great. :) I’m really happy for the U.S., especially since health care has been a huge problem there for a long time. Good article!

Crap! Florida lawsuit filed. Nothing in the constitution allows Congress to force citizens to buy insurance or be fined. That provision alone will suck the entire bill down the toilet where it belongs.

Good for Obama and for USA, I guess this is only a first step but you have to start somewhere. I can’t understand how so many people in USA are against this, don’t they care about the people who can’t get health care? Listening to the angry words on this over the last few months has made me so grateful that I live in UK and don’t have to worry about healthcare, we all pay for it but it is free at the point of use.

Very good article on what is happening on the Health care bill.
Whether it will implemented time will only tell and how many people will still fall through the cracks and how they will enforce the fines. There is a loop pole in this Bill. The amish are exempt and the Muslim and if goes against your religious beliefs they do not have to buy into this package. Remember there are people who beleive God interventions will save there child or husband or wife etc…
    Thanks for the share

This was a very good article. I hope that this Bill will work out for us. I know there are a lot of people against it though.
