US Dollars Aid Tsunami
The United States spends millions to assist Tsunami in the devastating act of a massive underwater earthquake. President Bush had made no comment the first couple of days as he was vacationing in his ranch style home in Texas, when the earthquake struck in Indonesia.
The first offer Bush had made was 15m-20m, spokesman said it would be increased to 35m, eight days after the Tsunami disaster, Bush stated at the White House it would be increased to 35m.In Dec. Jan Engeland a U.N. emergency coordinator had criticized Bush for being stingy. Collin Powell defends Bush in honor that he is not “stingy” (secretary of state). There were complaints that Bush didn’t respond in the crisis immediately in aiding with money. Powell also disputed that the U.S. failed to deliver in aid on a pledge. Critics claim that 35m was feeble considering the wealth of the U.S. Bush also sent secretary of state (Powell) to Indian Ocean Coastal in Tsunami to assess what more the U.S. can do. Engeland also told reporter in New York that this is not the largest earthquake recorded in history. The affects are certainly larger as more people do reside there now than in the past.
At the moment the United States presented by Bush has assisted Tsunami with $350 million that was passed through legislation for emergency. The earthquake in Tsunami has devastated all coastal areas in Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, as far in depth as East Africa. Over 150,000 people have died; it may take years for recovery as many as 5 to 10 years even longer. This could cost the U.N. billions of U.N. dollars.
This Asian disaster caused ten millions of dollars of just damage alone. As many as 5 million people may need assistance for this huge devastation. In this crisis financial and other assistance will increase daily. The U.S. toll is at more than 15, eight in Thailand 7 in Sri Lanka, over 600 Americans were missing and found, however thousands are still missing after the disaster.
The devastating disaster has also left many with high risk for decease and the numbers of deaths continue to keep rising. The danger of transmitted disease through water, diarrhea, malaria and respiratory infections says; a Red Cross official in Geneva.
Many Countries have pledged France promised 57million, Sweden 75.5 (sending), Britain pledged 95m, 2 billion in assistance contributed by Japan, over 500 million contributed (though most pledges are loans). U.S. Military delivered 430,000, lbs. (195,000kg) of food, supplies and equipment to the disaster in Tsunami.
The U.S. Congress passed 13.6 billion last year in Oct. to aid in Florida’s four hurricane disaster, a vital State for Bush’s campaign for reelection. Jeb Bush president Bush’s brother the Gov. of Florida also was accompanying him to Tsunami. The billions were mostly used in aid for Florida.
Former President Bill Clinton describes Tsunami as a horror story. Clinton is also leading the nationwide charitable donation drive for private donations from Americans. If donations are made before the end of the month, you may deduct for 2004 legislation signed by Bush. (A massive ship carrying expeditionary by the marine, more than 20 patrol, cargo aircrafts, planes and helicopters contribute food, medicine supplies to the families suffering).
Bush states; on Weekly News Radio “A time of grief for many around the world, American have come together to pray for the victims of Tsunami’s disaster. Also stated; our contributions will continue to be revised as everything becomes more clear on this tragedy. We think of the children who have been lost and the survivors in search of their families and we offer our sympathy, compassion and generosity”.
