U.S Involvement in the Iraq War is Ridiculous
Facts and opinions on the Iraq War.
U.S. involvement in Iraq has been going on for longer than five years now and has run through many goals that have either been achieved or passed up. I myself think the war is going successfully and that the volunteer troops over there are heroes that we should greatly respect, but I do not agree that it is necessary for the U.S. to be involved. We are now fighting the remnants of a war which all started with the 9/11 bombings on U.S. soil, to searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, to bringing down a dictator, to fighting all the terrorism that the U.S. can find in Iraq, so after all of that we can pretty much call it a success and be done with it.
My solution is to initiate a phased withdrawal using a timetable in order to slowly but surely get American troops out of the Middle East. On top of that, seeing the need to keep stability in Iraq, we need to encourage and assist the Iraqi central government in taking control. We can do this by keeping very minimal security there to ensure smooth government rehabilitation. We should increase research in non-piloted drones in order to unman the front lines in Iraq to decrease the number of military casualties while maintaining sufficient reconnaissance of the Iraqi government rehabilitation (Drew 1). Predator Drones have proved to be effective weapons against Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups which can be confirmed by looking at “the latest use of what intelligence officials have called their most effective weapon against Al Qaeda,” (Drew 1), “When a missile fired by an American drone killed at least four people late Sunday at the house of a militant commander in northwest Pakistan,” the event was looked at as a success by the drones engineers. (Drew 1) By Reducing U.S. involvement in the Iraq War we can focus on our own problems at home and satisfy the rest of the world who believes we shouldn’t be in Iraq anymore. After looking at established truths, personal experiences, countless statistics and authorities opinions you can see how U.S. involvement in Iraq is ridiculous.
“Some people just like to watch the world burn,” is a famous quote by the butler in the “Dark Knight” and even though it is a super-hero movie I think it holds a lot of truth to it. There will most likely always be some form of terrorism in the world and since I don’t see the horizon soon I don’t think we need to keep trying so hard. So now do you think there is any overwhelming reason why the U.S. needs to be involved in the Iraq War? Stand up for what is logistical, what is right, what is just and say no to the ridiculous war that is the “War on Terror”.
