VA Tech – Aftermath
What is the Virginia Governor doing about this tragedy? Is he making political hay?
Let’s look at some of the idiocy in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shootings. Here are some quotes from an article by Bob Lewis an Associated Press Writer. Let me assure you that Bob is not alone in this, I could find at least twenty other like articles.
“Similarly, the chairman of a panel appointed by Kaine to review the massacre said the reporting requirement must be tightened.”
This article is referring to Governor Kaine and the requirements for reporting mental issues so they are available to check when someone purchases a gun. This should be an investigation into how the Commonwealth of Virginia FAILED it’s citizens. It did. They did not enter this information into the data base so Cho bought a gun. Gun control legislation is not needed. House cleaning in government bureaucracies is sorely needed to prevent this from recurring. The laws were in place. Inaction in Virginia negated them.
Some are blaming the federal government for not providing for the reporting. The laws on reporting have been in place for some time. I have not heard anyone complain about this till now. If this was really the problem, why wasn’t the Commonwealth of Virginia pursuing getting this fixed?
And there are lots of questions. Who knew this hole existed before and who was responsible for bureaucratic paralysis? This person or these persons need to be held responsible. If someone in the Commonwealth of Virginia State Police or mental health organizations knew this, why wasn’t the heads of these agencies pressuring the governor? If the Governor knew, why wasn’t he pressing the Federal Senate and House members from Virginia to do something? If they were being pressed, why were they not taking action. If there was a bill in the senate to fix that, why wasn’t Harry Reed pushing it to the president’s desk? The buck has to stop somewhere. It is time elected officials and bureaucrats who eat from the government trough know that they need to be serving the people who pay their salaries.
It is great to say that the reporting has to improve. It is great to say we will issue an executive order – apparently US Senate action is not needed! But why wasn’t it done last month? And who failed the people of Virginia?
“It’s pretty clear: He should not have been able to obtain a weapon,” said retired Virginia State Police Superintendent W. Gerald Massengill.
