What’s Happened to The GOP?

I was a republican up until now. I have always believed in small government, fiscal conservancy, encouraging moral fiber and state supremacy. For most of my life I believed in these principals and stood by them. However, I do not feel that the Republican Party has been true to these principals.

I feel that there has been a conspiracy by members from the extreme right that want to divide people and launch an all out war against the poor, a.k.a. minority cultures.  These conspirators are using the Obama Administration to fight social change that would help people of all races to become part of mainstream America.

I believe that the Republican Party has played a major roll in facilitating the paradigm shift whereby fiscal conservatism was ignored in the past and greed became the name of the game. This was followed up by the blame game. For the past eight-years, our leadership was being dictated vicariously through policies put into play by the vice president. Corporate America and Wall Street quickly learned they had a friend in Dick Cheney. Cheney, who was instrumental in deregulating a checks and bounds system so that Halliburton and others could operate as they pleased, made sure that any challenges were met with allegations of being unpatriotic. The Patriot Act was used as an instrument to assure secrecy and to circumvent due process and congressional oversight.

The Bush Administration did little to curb unchecked immigration because it helped to keep wages low as people became increasingly fearful of losing their job to immigrants who would work for less. This was good for big business to whom Bush showed favoritism.  They allowed Wall Street and the banking related industries to regulate themselves.  This was good for big business to whom Bush showed favoritism. There was a real war going on in Afghanistan that was being under-funded and a pseudo-war in Iraq that was being over-funded. This favored Halliburton and you can be sure that Cheney profited big time.

Yet, I am hearing absolute disgust from the Republican Party for President Obama and the Democratic Party. The Republican Party does not want Main Street bailed out. They have no problem with bailing out AIG and the banking industry to whom were at the root of causing the economic crisis we are presently in. What happened to accountability and fiscal conservancy?

Two years ago I lost my business due to an economic downswing. I have been living on savings since I don’t qualify for unemployment. I recently lost my health care because I could no longer afford the $1,000+ a month premiums.

Even though I have a graduate degree, I am only able to find occasional work and have used up much of my savings. As friends will attest, I’m not above manual labor when I can find it, even though I can barely walk anymore. I am just as angry as hell that the party I was a member of all my adult life has taken on the Rush Limbaugh attitude that they want President Obama to fail.

I need a job. I need health care. Like many Americans, I’M NOT ASKING FOR A HANDOUT, I’M DEMANDING A HAND UP because I have earned it and it will allow me to become a taxpayer who contributes to the system. It would be good for my country and me.  If people of my ilk are merely jettisoned to the wayside like so much trash – so goes America.
