Why are Americans Still Divided Over Race?
Every since Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, the cry of racism has really been unfounded. It’s as if people want to push America back 40 or 50 years to a day and time that many American’s have progressed and moved on and away from.
I’m a little confused these days on the great divide that is once again showing its face within our nation. Now I know we have two political parties and maybe a rise of a third (Libertarian), so there is going to be some disagreements. But I don’t understand the wide divide for some people. Every since Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, the cry of racism has really been unfounded. It’s as if people want to push America back 40 or 50 years to a day and time that many American’s have progressed and moved on and away from.
Here are my questions concerning the whole presidential election and the divide between American’s who want to base this upcoming election on race.
Did your retirement, 401k and any other savings you have in the stock market plummet because of greed within our capitalistic system?
Has someone if not yourself been affected by the housing market crisis? Either loosing or lost their homes or can not afford their mortgage because it has increased about 30% from its original amount
Gas prices putting a strain on everybody’s pocket regardless of where and how you live. The price of fuel has made everything go up from bread to toilet tissue. That has affected everyone and not just a select few. Everything cost more.
Now if you can tell me where race comes into play with the few items I just pointed out, please do so because really I don’t get it. Once again this nation is being distracted by things that really don’t matter as much as the day to day living concerns of the average American. If we argue over race and racial endorsements and other divides, then we do not pay attention to the main issues of today and that is the greed within our capitalistic system that has really gone unchecked. Gas prices are getting low, which means they never had to be that high in the first place. This presidential election we have to stay focused on what really matters in America and not allow a select few to take this nation back. Let’s move forward and onward. It is now time.
That is just my ‘2 cents’ as they say. I would love to hear yours.

1) Race is not the only thing people divide themselves over. People divide themselves from others based on looks, income, social status, place of birth, favorite sports team, etc. And humans being visual creatures, race makes it easier. 2) The fact is minorities are still institutionally victimized. Why is that in a nation where 80% of drug users are white, blacks make up 70% of those incarcerated for drug offenses. Simply ignoring racial disparities doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Human beings by nature are social creatures and we all get accustomed to our environment. Since our environment can affect human perception, we (humans) have a tendency to have problems with race or anything we feel is outside of our comfort zone. Not to sound too political, I sometimes feel there should just be two parties, Liberals and Moderates. I just don’t see how modern societies can make any progress if we all try to divide ourselves like the far right conservatives.
