Why is the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights Crucial?

It is important because it pulls life-preserving messages from the past, and it’s valued as a vital base for building a world in which all human persons in the centuries to come, can look forward to living in dignity and peace…

The Importance of the United Nations Universal Declaration of human Rights (UDHR).

Apart from the fact that the UDHR is an accepted world standard for Human right. It is important because it pulls life-preserving messages from the past, and it’s valued as a vital base for building a world in which all human persons in the centuries to come, can look forward to living in dignity and peace.

The declaration had a far-reaching strong effect because of :
The relentless efforts of the ‘three different groups…’
The inability of the reluctant countries to vote against it,
The fact that it is an accepted and influential statement of standards, even by the nations, who are unsure about the whole human right enterprise,
The fact that it has become almost an extension of the UN charter,
Most, if not all its provisions have almost certainly become a part of the International law.

3. a} December 10, 1948: by the general Assembly resolution 217 {111} of the same year.
b} Paragraph 1 of Article 1 {found in the preamble}, where the UDHR sets out a standard of rights for all peoples every where, recognizing the inherent dignity and… equal and inalienable right of all members of the human family… and providing a foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.

a} The key areas of the declaration are:
A progressive measures by which National and International community can put in place arrangement for the actualization of both civil and political rights, and Economic and Social rights.
- A common standard by which every individual and organ of the society shall strive by teaching and educating to promote respect for rights and freedoms.

b} It has the following topics:
The building of a world of dignity, freedom, justice and peace.
The recognition and promotion of inherent dignity of the persons.
The provision of equal and inalienable rights of all human family at national and international level.

A}
-Where the preamble is a preliminary aspect of a legal document {statute or constitution} that explains its background rather than being part of its influencing provisions, Rights covered in the declaration are statements of importance, they are claims on other persons, acknowledged and perhaps reciprocated among the principals in line with it. They have high moral and often political significance, and are binding in the international law.
b}
-The language and focus change thus: the preamble stands as a brief content that speaks of the detail of a document, not active and binding. A right is a crucial formal account of facts – operative, effective and binding.

    We human beings tend to think such documents give us rights, but in truth such documents merely affirm the inalienable rights we are born with. Because we have governments in the world which rule with tyranny rather than democracy, you can be sure they have a “bone to pick” with any such decrees from the United Nations.
