Why You’re Wrong

I examine three very common arguments against Anarchy and then I argue them right back in your face. Thanks but try again, guys.

I’d like to start this article by saying a special hello to my fans. I got a pleasant surprise when I woke up this morning and noticed someone had gone and commented on ten of my articles. I’m not going to lie to you (why start now?): I love an ego-boost as much as the next guy. I went and checked the details of my Triond account and noticed I had a total of six people listed as fans that I never knew about. So hello to you guys, and anyone else who isn’t able to list themselves. If you’re a regular reader of my articles then leave a comment just saying hello back. I’d like that.

Alright so today I’m feeling a little short on rhetoric. I may have used it all up in some other writing works so instead I’m going to be a little more practical in the political debate side of things and actually answer some common arguments people have thrown at me in the past. I hear these arguments time and time again and they never get any harder to answer.

“If there were anarchy then society would just degrade into constant crime and pillaging and absolute chaos. That’s why it’s called anarchy!”

Okay well let’s work backwards on this one. First of all you don’t seem to understand what the term anarchy means. Anarchists (And I mean real anarchists. Not fifteen year olds who listen to too much Sex Pistols and think they’ve got a copy of the illegal Anarchist Cookbook. Then think they’re cool because they have an A on their shirt and because they can make napalm) have on goal in mind and admittedly they have a lot of different ideas about how to get their and what the anarchist utopia would be. But ultimately all anarchists agree on one simple fact: The government does more harm than good and it needs to be gone.

Secondly let me ask you this: If the government was gone tomorrow is that what you’d do? Everyone put your hands up if you’re the kind of person that will start murdering, raping and stealing as soon as you hear the door closing on parliament? I’m not and most people, when I ask them, say that they’d never do that kind of thing. But of course most people would! Let’s skip over the usual “’COPS’ has got you scared of black people” thing and talk about mutual aid, just briefly. An anarchist society will still be a society and without a government to regulate a free market economy the most viable option is a system (not an “economy”) based on mutual aid and cohesion.
