You Do Whatever You Want: An Open Letter to All Members of Congress
Well, maybe that staff member can break away from that box of donuts for a brief moment, waddle over to you, relay this message and extend my warmest, heart-felt regards.
Dear Senators, representatives and other arrogant elitist types,
It is obvious that you members of congress basically do whatever it is you want and have very little regard as to what the American people want. Yet, I can’t help but yield to my desire to tell you how I, as a citizen, feel about your arrogance.
You members of congress seem to think that the American people are too stupid to figure you out for what you really are. Do you really think that we are going to stand idly by as you constantly ram garbage you have the gall to refer to as legislation through? The reason you are all trying to put legislation through so fast is that you don’t want the people to have a chance to see what is in it. WE ARE ON TO YOUR GAME!!!!!!
I happen to think that you know what the right thing is. I happen to think that you know it is wrong to ram legislation through without adequate debate. It’s just a matter of whether or not you care about doing what is right. You already voted for the so-called stimulus. Worked like a real charm didn’t it? Do you even care if it works? I am really starting to wonder if you members of congress actually care if your ridiculous spending spree will even be effective in helping the economy.
Oh, better hurry up and add some amendments to the legislation, 3:00 am on the morning it is to be voted on; otherwise someone might get a chance to actually read it. Oh, God forbid it be debated on. There might be a remote possibility you’d throw out a couple of bad ideas here and there. You might even eliminate some wasteful proposals. Can’t have that! We have to make sure it goes through so fast that not a single bad idea is removed from the legislation.
How about a pledge from you? Like if you vote for the health care plan, that you go on it yourself. Would you promise us that at least? No you won’t! Who are we kidding here? Because you think you’re too good to have to go on the same lousy plan you intend to force us peasants to go on! Oh forgive me, your royal highnesses! How dare I mock your splendor and greatness. Could you please forgive this humble peasant his ignorance? You have to learn to overlook us lowly common folk in spite of how difficult a task that is. After all, we ain’t done much of that there fancy book learnin’ stuff.
