"What is the study of Cognitive Psychology?"

“If Albert Einstein was alive today”, cognitive psychologist would love to pick his brain of knowledge.  Cognitive psychology is the study of complex behaviors. Such as problem solving, creativity, understanding and how judgments are made. Cognitive psychologists are interested in the way that highly intelligent people and animals make decisions, and how they perceive and retreive information.”

They believe that the higher mental processes of people and animals can be studied and that they should be for understanding the way they think and why. Some what different than the behaviorists who were more interested in studying the peoples actions and behaviors. Their thinking on the matter was that psychology was the science of behavior and not the science of the mind.

Cognitive psychology is the dominant perspective today. Theories of murderers with master minds that could have and do it all but still choose to put their self in a dangerous position with the law. What makes them tick and what makes them think in such a disruptive manner. Answers to these questions are highly desirable to the cognitive psychologist and they are determined to find them. Psychology in its self is the science of behavior and mental processes and psychologist operate under the assumption that events are explainable and consistent. This is why when a murderer who test on a genius level, say they killed because they wanted to and they knew exactly what they were doing. This bothers them to the point of constant research and they believe the answers are within their brains and the function they play.

Cognitive psychology tests are designed to assess the capabilities of humans and animals. IQ tests are the most common used for humans followed by a series of given words and thought responses. Not to mention the ink plots which are used to determine obsessive thoughts. Animals are tested in a way that shows their thinking process more clearly, like the mouse in the maze test. Also mirrors and sounds have been used in the testing of animals thinking.

Does our emotions play a part in what we do and think? If we see other people doing something does our minds tell us that its okay to do it and that we are capable as well? Questions that’s been asked for years and cognitive psychologist will answer. Like the old saying our moms used, if everyone else jumped off a bridge would you do it too?

The bests for last, if someone tells you all your life that your nothing and that your a bad person. Eventually you will begin to believe it. Or flip it, a Miss America contestant once said that her mother had always told her that she was destined to be Miss. America. So if she kept thinking in that way as if she had already won, it made her more confident.

There are available online cognitive psychology test offered through out the internet, some are free and you may find them interesting. One free test I found offers a series of questions designed to determine the way you think, the website is http://www.helpself.com/thinker.htm  try it your self.

Intriguing article. These tests can actually see if an individual is pre-disposed for such criminal activity and an indicator for individuals capable of genius or high learning capacities. Definitely some interesting research. Great read and write.
