SCP History
The SCP began as an influential membership assembly consisting of individuals that had attained “fellowship status (the highest membership category) in the APA” (The Society of Consulting Psychology, 2010). After disbanding disbanded for a couple of decades Division 13 established in “1946” (The Society of Consulting Psychology, 2010).
Purpose
The Society spotlights organizational consulting psychology with and other areas of session such as school psychology consultation. Recently the Society’s partisanship has been in decline. The decline is fuelled by members ageing and members experiencing economic issues.
The Society offers the following list as “Our Purpose” (The Society of Consulting Psychology, 2010).
Stimulating the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and consulting experience among psychologists
Encouraging high standards of consultation
Promoting psychological research and professional development in the area of consulting
Fostering cooperative relations with allied associations and with all APA divisions
Supporting the advancement of psychology as a science and a profession
The Societies website offers members the “Consulting Psychology Journal, advocacy, and education through training and development.
Brief History of SIOP Foundation
The Foundation was established in 1996. In 1997 inclusion as The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology was anticipated to afford “Division 14 with an autonomous and sheltered foundation” (Koppes, 2006). This was proposed to help hone the foundations civic character and to boost associate credentials with the organization. Further still inclusion would aid the group to increase litheness and sensitivity in dealing with “lawful issues”, to achieve further power over SIOP’s monetary dealings, and to facilitate SIOP to better pursue opportunity (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Inc., 2009).
SIOP’s Purpose
SIOP’s priority is to sponsor human welfare throughout the assortment of practices of psychology to various types of organization that provide “goods or services” (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Inc., 2009). SIOP makes available monetary support for the progression of Industrial-Organizational psychology. Additionally, the SIOP puts forward deliberate guidance through solicitation and use of finances.
SIOP offers members and non member’s access to information regarding the field of psychology. Professionals, that are members, can gain access to conferences and consortiums. Students, again, that are members, can gain access to information regarding internships, graduate training programs, and free webinars. Educators can access curriculum that contains “the science and practice behind industrial and organizational psychology with various modules aimed at providing the platform needed for classroom instruction” (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Inc., 2009).
