Do Our Clothes Determine Our Mood?
This article insinuates that there is a correlation of what we choose to wear for the day and how we feel inside.
Do colors really determine our mood? A coworker and I were having a discussion the other day about the colors of clothing and how these colors represent your personality for the day. He suggest that one wear lighter colors because darker colors bring negative energy and lighter colors bring out a more cheerful attitude. Halloween for example is usually celebrated with darker colors and a holiday like Easter, is usually celebrated with lighter colors. Traditionally darker colors are worn during a time of mourning, such as at a funeral. Lighter colors are worn at a time of happiness, such at a wedding. I really haven’t notice any difference in my attitude with any shade. I am ordinarily a cheerful person.
I am not a superstitious person. However, one thing that I have noticed is that my attire for the day often gives away my feelings on the inside and sometimes it does determine my mood. When I am not dressed for success It’s harder for me to show my confident side and I tend to shy away from people. Consequently, daily I try to look presentable, even on my days off from work because I have more of an outgoing personality when everything just flows together. I am not a flashy person, but I do believe in looking nice and being able to represent myself and my kids very well. A good amount of my clothes are from second hand stores. However, I manage to put things together to make my wardrobe flawless.
As an experiment next time you throw on those sweats and flip flops ask yourself how are you are feeling at that moment or for that day. Or next time you throw on those Coach sandals or that Coach watch ask yourself how you are feeling at that time. The next time you put on that all black outfit, you know the one that looks oh so flawless with that all black leather jacket, ask yourself how you are feeling.
I know we tend to dress differently depending on our workload and activities for the day. For just a quick run to the store ballroom attire is not necessary. We may just throw on some sweats and pull our hair back. I really don’t know if there is a correlation between what things we choose to wear and our attitude. I don’t believe that clothes make the person but I believe from experience that our wardrobe can broadcast our most unhappiest or joyful days without us even saying a word.

I definitely believe your mood sets the tone for the clothes you choose to wear that day. If I wake up grumpy or feeling under the weather I will most likely reach for those comfy sweats and soft t-shirts. If I’ve got lots of energy and feel confident about my appearance I’ll choose more fitted clothing and take more time to match tops, bottoms, shoes etc. Very good points made here.
