Do You Know That There is a Saying `Manners Maketh The Man’?
Our good manners reveal themselves in our speech. We have to be polite when we speak to others. The words we use, the gestures we make should reflect our sincerity.
It means that a person is judged by his manners. That is, we can identify the character of a person by the way he speaks or behaves. A person who is good mannered is always respected and loved. A person who is not good mannered is always disliked and looked down. In other words, a person reveals his personality through his manners. The fore our manners and our social behavior decide our character. So, let us what good mannered behavior.

Our good manners reveal themselves in our speech. We have to be polite when we speak to others. The words we use, the gestures we make should reflect our sincerity. They should also reflect our genuine respect for them. We should speak softly to them. We should not talk aloud or shout at others. We have to speak in a low voice. Otherwise we will be considered ill-mannered. The language we use should be polished sand refined. We should not try to show off our learning or scholarship. Simplicity in speech is also a mark of cultured behavior. We should avoid using coarse language or harsh words. We may be angry with a person. But even then we can express our strong feelings, but without using strong or foul language. We can be firm without being impolite.
We have to remember another important aspect of behavior. Thought, speech and action are interred- related. Speech follows thought, and action follows speech or thought. So, let us be careful about our thoughts. Let us be free from evil thoughts or wicked plans. We have to check our thoughts. We should be able to avoid bad or evil thinking. We should control our thoughts. This can be done if only we are pure in our heart and mind. Then we can keep our speech under control and we can also keep our actions under control. Thought is the basis of all our behavior. So, we should never think ill of others. We should always think well of others.
Our way of dressing also reveals our manners. We have to put on the dress proper for the occasion. We should not wear the same dress while going to office and evening walk.
We have to wear suitable dress for going to the temple, mosque or church. When we visit these places, we should be simple in our dress. We should not wear a dress that is gaudy. Our dress should always suit the occasion.
We should also follow table- manners. We should not eat before others start. In the same way we should not be greedy too eat the best of the dishes first. First we have to offer them to the others. Then only we can have it. While receiving the guests also, we to be courteous and well behaved. We have to welcome the guests with a smiling face. We have to offer seats and extend our hospitality, whole-heartedly. There are many more little things that go to make up our manners.
No doubt these are all little things. But it is these things that show us as good-mannered. If others find us –good mannered, we are loved and respected. We have to command respect through our good –mannered behavior.
