Dream Analogy of Life (Part 1)
Part one.
Life has been quite a mystery to us all. Philosophers over all the years have tried their best in attempting to find some logical, scientific basis to explain its nature. What is its source, how is life created, who governs our lives and and fundamental laws are operating in its existence are some of the most basic aspects whose explanations are both varying and without some solid foundation. Why was life created, who created the world etc etc are questions which we may find ourselves facing when we set out to decide what our lives should be devoted to. Hence, it becomes quite a necessity to have some foundational basis to direct us to make effective and sound decisions.
So how do explain something so infinite. Something that in essence is everything. How do you explain life?
I would like to present to you a method to do it. Like many other, I don’t know if this the right approach. But I have tried my best to keep it as flawless and true as possible.
Think of a dream. Suppose you are sleeping and you have a dream. In the dream, you find yourself interacting with some characters, you face a certain situation. Say you met an old man. You remember he had a long beard, and perhaps he told you that he was 88 years old.
Now if you notice, the first thing I would like to point out to you is that as long as you were dreaming, you were unaware that it was all a dream. It was only when you woke up that you realize… Oh man, it was all a dream……..
Secondly, everything that you saw, felt and perceived in the dream was not real. The old man you saw in your dream was not real. He said he was 88 years old but surely you haven’t been sleeping for 88 years. J The old man seemed real but was not. So who was he, or what was he? He was a projection of your mind. An illusionary self created by your mind that was acting as the theater to the whole dream. Think about it. You are sleeping. You have a dream. Your mind never sleeps. So everything you see, sense in your dream is most probably rising from your mind.
Now if you observe I will point out the similarities between life and a dream.
Just like in a dream, in life we don’t remember where we were before our life started and have no evidence to say with certainty where we go after dying. Perhaps life too is a dream and we would realize so when it ends just like in a dream. Now if life too is some sort of a dream, then there has to be someone dreaming. Perhaps our consciousness, our awareness.
Plus as long as the dream plays along it may not realize about that life is also a dream until it ends just like a dream. Maybe the whole of physical universe is just a projection of our awareness. A reality created by the awareness to have this dream state called life. Perhaps the only thing that is real and really exists is the awareness that lies within else.
Can we then say that life is just a dream. If so, what is the reason for its existence. Why have this dream. What purpose does it serve?
These are just a few perspective to consider when you are finding an explanation about life. Right or not, it is built without making any assumptions and hence can be termed as a flawless possibility so far……
