Dream Analysis: Believe It or Not

If you are a dreamer, and most people are, you would not be alone in wondering what meanings are behind your dreams. The question is, “do our unconscious minds have any implications about our consciousness"?

What did you dream about last night?  Was it a realistic, natural dream or something out of the ordinary?  Did your dream reveal something you would actually do in real-life, or an act you would never perform?  Was there more than one dream, either related or unrelated to each other?

If you are a dreamer, and most people are, you would not be alone in wondering what  meanings are behind your dreams.  The question is, “do our unconscious minds (our dreams) have any implications about our conscious minds (real life)?”  Most great thinkers, scientists, psychologists, psychiatrists and theorists will answer an astounding “yes”.  So enter the procedure called Dream Analysis.

Dream analysis is a process where your dream contents are analyzed and interpreted to find the true meaning behind them.  Interpretations of dreams have been around since the times of Ancient Greece.  In these ancient times, people believed that dreams were messages sent to them by their gods.

Nowadays, dream analysis, or dream interpretations are used by some professionals to assist them in reaching conclusions of serious problems their patients may have.

The only time we really dream is when we sleep, so day-dreaming doesn’t count. So how does a professional psychologist find out what you are dreaming about?  Simple procedure, yet not so simple.  You tell him.

Now, since you were asleep when the dream occured, can you tell the psychologist, or anybody else, your dream exacty like it happened?  In reality it is not likely.  All you can tell about your dream is what you perceived the dream was.  To recall every sequence of what you dreamed about is impossible to depict, not matter how vivid you believe the dream was.

As simple or as tedious it would be for you to tell the professional about your dreams, he will be met with some unintentional resistance from you.  It cannot be helped, because of the impossibility of your depiction of every detail.

Well intentioned professionals who use the practice, or study of dream analysis believe there are connections between our conscious and subconscious minds.  It is here they can interpret some communication between them.  Through this process, they believe they can help a person know themselves better.

With all that has been mentioned above, combined with the ever-advancing medical and psychological studies in today’s world, there will always remain scepticism where science is involved.

If a sceptic has a contributing opinion, it may be this:  If people sincerely want to know

more about themselves and what really “makes them tick”, they shouldn’t concern themselves with the meaning behind their dreams.  Maybe they should analyze themselves when they are awake and decide what really keeps them up at night.
