Dream Interpretation – Other People in Your Dreams

The people who appear in your dreams represent parts of your own personality that have characteristics similar to the characteristics of the personality of the people you are seeing. For example, if you see in a dream a friend who is very shy, he or she represents your own shyness. The meaning that each person has in a dream depends on the way that the dreamer judges this person.

When you see other people in your dreams, especially if you know them, you tend to believe that the dream is talking about them. However, the truth is that they represent parts of your own personality.

Everyone and everything that appears in your dreams have symbolic meanings.

Two separate dreamers seeing the same person in their dreams can mean different things for each dreamer. For example, for one dreamer the most important characteristic in his or her personality is intelligence, while for the other dreamer the most important characteristic is sincerity.

Many times a person is connected with a past situation. If you have a dream about a classmate, he or she may represent the personality you had when you were a teen. In this case, the personality of the person who appeared in your dream is not what matters, but what he or she reminds you of is.

Here is a practical example:

Ann dreamt that she was in her aunt’s house talking with her when her uncle arrives carrying a lot of bags. His bags were too big and heavy. Suddenly Roger, a friend Ann knew from her old neighborhood, entered in the house smiling.

Each person that appeared in her dream has a symbolic meaning depending on the way that Ann characterized them.

She considers her aunt as a good person, however she talks too much. So, her aunt represents Ann’s tendency to talk too much just like her aunt.

When you talk too much you say things that are unnecessary or silly. This behavior reflects futility and lack of control.

Since Ann is in her aunt’s house, this means that she is analyzing in detail this part of her personality. This dream is giving her a lesson about her behavior when she has the tendency to talk too much.

She characterizes her uncle as a very impatient man. This means that her uncle in her dream represents Ann’s tendency to be impatient like her uncle.

The heavy bags he is carrying represent past ideas and conclusions that this part of her personality keeps alive. In other words, she believes her tendency to be impatient is justified by past experiences.

This means that Ann justifies her behavior thanks to past ideas, without thinking further about this matter.

Roger is a friend who had helped her very much when she moved to a new neighborhood. She characterizes him as a very balanced and calm person.

This means that he represents her own serenity.

When we translate the entire dream in order to understand the unconscious messages, its general meaning is the following:

Ann should stop emulating her aunt by talking too much. She needs to stop acting like her uncle by being impatient. She has to abandon her old opinion, and understand that this behavior is negative.

She will be helped if she models the behavior of her friend Roger, who represents a balanced and calm part of her personality.
