Dream Interpretation: The Meaning of an Umbrella in Dreams
To help you interpret and understand the meaning of your dreams.
Dreams are a connection between our waking lives and the rich, mysterious world of our subconscious minds. Our dreams reveal our deepest hopes and wishes, our strengths and weaknesses, our struggles and victories, our desires and our needs. In short, our dreams show us everything about ourselves, sometimes even when we aren’t aware of certain aspects of our personality.
The symbolic language of our dreams is individual and unique to the dreamer. The symbols you see in your dreams are trying to tell you a story and apply exclusively to your waking life. So, when it comes to interpreting your dreams there is no better expert than yourself.
Sometimes my interpretations won’t seem to apply to you, the people around you or your current situation. If this happens, focus on your symbol; on its own and within the context of your dream. Look for clues about the symbol’s meaning to you and its application to your personal circumstances.
The Meaning of an Umbrella in Dreams
An umbrella is always used as a protective covering. To dream of an umbrella, may be a clue to the way you feel about your waking life. It’s also important to notice whether the umbrella is open or closed in your dream.
To dream of an open umbrella, may be an indication of your need for protection in your waking life. Is there a situation or person that has left you feeling vulnerable, unsafe or somehow compromised? The open umbrella may also be symbolic of a person or situation, in your waking life that requires your attention but that you’re unable or unwilling to attend to those needs. Is the umbrella symbolic of your attempt to protect yourself from your true feelings and emotions?
To dream of a closed umbrella is symbolic of your willingness and ability to deal directly with the people and situations of your waking life. Have you recently resolved a difficult situation and now feel stronger and more refreshed?
Alternatively, a closed umbrella can also be symbolic of worried anticipation. In our waking lives, we often carry a closed umbrella just in case it rains. Does your waking life include situations or people who could be expected to cause you stress in the future? Do you need to confront these issues directly prior to you feeling the need for some form of protection or covering?
Dreams are a window onto a hidden, secret part of us. Learn to look through that window and you’ll be amazed! Understanding what we see, in our dream symbols, allows us an opportunity to strengthen our self knowledge and to live richer, more fulfilling lives.

Interesting. I usually dream about my children when they were small. What does that mean?
