Endocrines and Human Personality
If there is an imbalance in the secretion of endocrine glands, then it will create an imbalance in our personality.
Human personality plays an important role in the development of certain kinds of diseases, for personality determines how capable we are in handling stress in life. Stress is not an objective entity. It is a subjective reaction to an external on internal situation. Any situation can produce stress even if it is designed to bring relaxation like playing golf or going swimming. It all depends on our personal view of the situation. Our reaction depends on our past experience and our type of personality.
The endocrine and nervous system are linked with, and directly respond to the brain and the mind. Both affect personality which is built up through our past experiences. Personality determines action and creates channels or grooves called habits. These lead us into a seemingly endless maze of actions and thoughts. You can change this situation for the better by changing your brain patterns, personality and habits. Thus you free yourself unhindered by past memories and future worry. This is spontaneous creativity.
Medical science has classified 2 basic types of people stable and labile. Stable people are independent with greater motor control greater resistance to noise and sensory deprivation have higher mental health on psychological testing and are less susceptible to conditioning. The labile personality is the precursor of psychosomatic disease and mental illness. People in this category expend more energy on maladaptive activities and have limited energy available to cope with stress or engage in productive activity. The labile personality has greater chance of developing hypertension. Such a person is subject to labile hypertension i.e. when he is heavily stressed his blood pressure rises, but when that stress is removed it returns to normal. This situation occurs because the mind is not harmonized with and therefore is not strong enough to control the pranas and the autonomic nervous systems so they go of balance in any stressful situation.
Endocrines glands are those which secret chemicals called hormones, directly into the blood stream. This is opposed to the exocrine glands which secrete chemicals via ducts on to surfaces such as the skin, bowel walls and so on. Hormones have specific effects on the metabolism and activity of certain body organs. There are seven major endocrine glands : the pituitary, pineal, thyroid and parathyroid, thymus, pancreas, adrenals and gonads (sex glands). The status of the thymus as an endocrine gland is controversial, but it is included for completeness. Endocrines are one of the more interesting fields of medicine because of their direct link with personality and character and their connection with the psychic centers (CHAKRAS) at the higher levels of our being.
