Get help for troubled adolescents: When and where

When the child starts to spiral out of control that must be some difficult questions.  The first step is to honestly assess how you think you do when you communicate with your child.  Do you believe that exchanging information and valuable time?  Or do you think there is a lack of communication and hiding something?

Look for warning signs:

Low self-esteem

Out of touch with reality

Sudden changes in volatility of personality and mood

Offensive behavior

Declining grades and school performance

self-destructive actions or language (threats of suicide or extreme exercise regime &)

Lone trends

debilitating fear

Some of these behaviors on a frequent basis may indicate a problem.  At this point you should seek outside help.  Do not be too proud to ask for help.

If you feel that your efforts are not working (or not good enough) First Aid has expanded its circle of friends and family.  Get all the parties concerned to strengthen the spirit of her son.  Show that you have a support system that can work to restore confidence in their relationship.  If the child opens another family member better than you, keep your anger inside, attention should focus on helping your child.

Sometimes it is necessary to meet the professionals.  Do not wait too long on this step if your child is out of control.  A delay could be costly.  But where will the next turn?  Consider the following:

school counselor

This person is responsible for teenagers (especially problems) every day, is an excellent resource for understanding what may happen between social groups at school.  They also have a quick easy access to your child during the day.

Outside directors and psychologists

These professionals have degrees in counseling and therapy.  Some specialize in therapy, while others focus on testing.  It is better to find someone who deals with many teenagers, most often a better relationship with the younger generation.

Social workers

These people often work with families as a group and are very familiar with emotional problems in a social environment.  They can help identify problems related to family dynamics.  This can be useful if there are frequent conflicts in the house.

Psychiatrists

These are doctors (and yes, they went to medical school) who are authorized to prescribe medications and hospital patients.  In general, opt this professionally for a later stage as directors of the license is often a more economic and personal problems of adolescents.

Therapy can be expensive, so check with your insurance plan to see which services are covered.  Some companies impose restrictions on the type of services offered and / or frequency of visits.  If cost is an issue not forget that school counselors are often free.  You can also contact the university or college, free clinics, training and mentoring programs to manage the offices of the state.  Some offices offer a sliding scale of rates for low-income families.  It is important to not let money stop you from seeking help.  Fitness your child and your family depend on it.
