Gifts and Growing Edges

All about me. A self-evaluation essay.

Each person has their own gifts and growing edges which can be interpreted as one’s strengths and areas for development, respectively. To look at these in myself, it was eye-opening to see the things I was good at because it is easy to overlook my strengths.

One of my strengths is being relating well to others. I show this strength by communicating my feelings effectively and staying calm when I am the target of anger from others. Also, my ability to work out conflicts helps me relate to others. Another strength is my ability to be an emotional mentor. I do this by building trust with others and helping others manage their emotion, while keeping mine under control. Providing advice and support to others when needed is a way I become an emotional mentor. These strengths show I tend to have more affect on interpersonal relationships. It is in my own self and intra personal skills that improvement it needed.

After doing the Emotional Intelligence test, my self-awareness was on the border of being a strength and weakness. When I thought about it, it was obvious this was an area I needed to improve on. Two other areas that relate to this and in turn can improve is managing my emotions and being a self-motivator. It is important for me to learn to relax under pressure situations and to regroup quickly after a setback. In order to do this, I must develop a better, more productive pattern of behavior to handle these situations. By setting goals I will be motivated to achieve the reward in the end, giving me a sense of achievement. Using relaxation and therapeutic techniques, I will be able to better manage my emotion.
