I Will Kill It

Don’t let your emotions get the best of you.

Andrew Jackson once said, “It has tried to kill me, but I will it.” I don’t remember exactly what he was talking about, but those few words spoke to me like nothing ever has.

I’ve had more than my fair share of problems in my short twenty-two years on this earth. And I’ve encountered numerous sayings and quotes about doing your best and being your best. But until now, I’ve disregarded them all. Except this one.

Just the fact he used the word “kill”, gives it a primal, atavistic meaning to me. It’s one thing to “overcome”; it’s one thing to “take charge”; but it’s a whole other thing to “kill”. And I’m not talking about doing something that’ll land you in prison for the rest of your life.

What I’m talking about is trampling all the bad thoughts and emotions that get in the way of accomplishment and get in the way of success. You really have to “kill” those things off. And when you “kill” them off, they are gone for good, never to return or cause even the slightest bit of trouble.
