SCORING

Jot down the capital letters beneath your choice of answer. If you chose option b) for question 1, for example, you’d jot down the letter M. If you chose option d) for question 2, you’d jot dowm the letter P. Go through all questions until you have a list of 15 letters.

a b c d

1. C M P S

2. M S C P

3. S M P C

4. M P S C

5. P C M S

6. M S C P

7. P C M S

8. M P S C

9. C M P S

10. P C M S

11. S M C P

12. M S P C

13. C P S M

14. P C M S

15. S M C P

Now work out which letter you have the most of. You may end up with an equal balance of two letters, in which case you’re a mixture of those two types. If you find you have an equal balance of three or even all four letters, you’re a mixture of those three or four personality types. In fact, someone who scores equally on all four types is quite possibly the most well-balanced person of all!

CONCLUSIONS

If you scored mostly C, you’re what psychologists label as CHOLERIC. You’re extrovert, positive and fully aware of your own worth and ability to control your life. You get on excellently with people who are as confident as yourself, i.e. other CHOLERICS and SANGUINES (see below). You’re intolerant though – especially of people weaker than you – and your quick temper and bullying tactics often upset people. You don’t recognise your own strength, either, and you might be surprised to discover that some people find you quite overbearing.

Love: Because you need to respect and admire someone before you love them, you’re naturally drawn to men who are most like you, and this can often lead to fireworks as you battle for supremacy. Your man must be good-looking and admired by others as this, in your opinion, enhances your own worth. You could find you’re torn between someone you can look up to such as a CHOLERIC man or someone you can control, such as a MELANCHOLIC man (see below).

Work: Because you need to be boss, you won’t be happy unless you’re in charge. If you go about things the right way, you could end up as your own boss, the boss of a department or the boss of a company. You’ve got a great head for business and you’re always willing to take risks. Because of this, you’ll have no doubts about taking the plunge and setting up your own business if that’s what you want to do.

Health: Because of your active lifestyle, you’re prone to stress-related ailments. You’re generally in good shape, but you must learn to slow down a bit. Relax whenever you can, try to eat more healthily, and invest in the occasional massage to relieve some of that tension.

If you scored mostly M, you’re what psychologists label as MELANCHOLIC. As a child, you probably required a lot of attention and found that being sad was the best way of getting it. Despite this, you’ve grown up into a caring, considerate adult. Although you’re quiet, shy and easily upset, you have fantastic powers of observation, but because of this you can be overly critical. However, when you feel loved and understood, you can be a great person to know: you have a deep and genuine concern for others and can be wonderfully sympathetic and caring.

Love: As a MELANCHOLIC, you’re apprehensive about romance and may need a little gentle persuasion when it comes to close relationships. You find it difficult to express feelings of love and rarely say what you really mean in case it’s the “wrong” thing to say. You enjoy being looked after and entertained, so may be drawn to either PHLEGMATIC (see above) or SANGUINE (see below) men.

Work: You are quiet and thoughtful and are happiest in positions of trust. Loving, caring people like you often fall into the MELANCHOLIC group – a group which includes nannies, nurses, counsellors, religious workers and people who are happy helping and being of service to others.

Health: It’s your caring personality that makes you worry so much and lowers your resistance to illness. You’re the sort of person who gets every virus that’s going and you’re certainly no stranger to colds and stomach bugs either! Check with your doctor to find out if you need any extra vitamins and try not to take the worries of the world on your shoulders.

If you scored mostly P, you’re what psychologists label as PHLEGMATIC. You’re quite a conservative, introspective person, not to mention incredibly modest! You’ve got lots of good points – your sympathetic nature, your loyalty and your reliability to name but three – but you don’t like to brag about them. As a child, you were probably withdrawn and uncertain but, despite being a bit of a worrier, you’ve grown up into a kind, calm and understanding adult.

Love: In romantic relationships, you tend to play a passive role. You like to be organised by your partner and will happily go along with whatever they’ve arranged. You’re faithful and loving and extremely tolerant: if you think your partner gets away with murder, it’s only because you let him! You hate change, though, and need someone steady and reliable as a mate. Because of these needs, you could be attracted to a CHOLERIC (see above) man, or a MELANCHOLIC (see above).

Work: You’re the best assistant anyone could ask for. You’re reliable, trustworthy and honest. You’d make an excellent secretary or office worker. If your work involves figures, there’ll never be any inaccuracies; actors can always rely on the PHLEGMATIC prompt; and the mail will always be correctly sorted and sent in the right direction by a PHLEGMATIC post office worker!

Health: Because you’re inclined to worry so much, you suffer from problems such as insomnia, tension headaches and skin disorders. Try to give up anything you feel you could be dependent on and make a concerted effort to curb your excesses. Concentrate, then, on keeping fit.

If you scored mostly S, you’re what psychologists label as SANGUINE. You’re refined, friendly and make a fascinating friend. You’ve also got a good sense of humour and your kind, cheerful personality makes you highly attractive. Your bad points include mood swings, a tendency to be a touch pretentious at times, and the way you’re so unreliable. You can also be quite reckless – especially when it comes to money and other people’s feelings. Unsure, deep down, of your own worth, you will boast about all your achievements, while silently admiring the CHOLERIC’s self-confidence and certainty. A wonderful conversationalist, you can chat on any topic, whether you know about it or not.

Love: You are probably very attractive physically and have immense charm, easily adapting to and reflecting the people around you. You are only truly happy when in love and you fall in and out of it frequently and passionately. Each time it happens, you’re sure that this time it’s for real. You fall for a type – PHLEGMATICS or fellow SANGUINEs more often than not – rather than an individual and are often disappointed when the individual shows they are just that.

Work: You’re creative, artistic and imaginative and work best when you’re putting your talents to good use. You love the high-life and your desire for luxury causes you to seek well-paid jobs.

Health: Try to ensure that your hectic lifestyle doesn’t stop you from getting enough sleep and food – as it’s the lack of both of these basic requirements that causes you to feel run down. You enjoy looking and feeling good, but your unashamed love of luxury and lazing could cause a few health problems, too. Make up for all your lethargy with regular trips to the gym!
