MRI Test What is It?
Overview.
An MRI is Magnetic resonance imaging is a test that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to get detailed pictures of the organs and tissues within your body. An MRI can be used to create 3-D images to be viewed from different angles. An MRI produces high resolution pictures that can help diagnose many different problems.
Depending on what your symptoms are they will look at different parts of your body on a MRI. It can be done on your heart, brain and spinal cord, also of any internal organ they want a great detailed picture of. You can’t have any metal on during an MRI. So that is jewelry or anything else metal. So if you want to wear a bra wear a sports bra with no metal if you don’t want to go without a bra.
During an MRI you have to lie real still. If you are in a closed MRI machine it is tight so if you are afraid of enclosed places you might have a problem. They have open MRI machines but most of time the pictures are not as detailed. Sometimes during an MRI these use a contrast and if they do you come back out of machine briefly and they inject you with a contrast dye. Some are allergic to the dye.
An MRI is a painless procedure than can diagnose a lot of problems and be very useful in detecting things that can not be detected any other way.
