Nine Ways to Lift Your Mood

Everyone has days or moments when their mood needs a little boost. Simple acts can instantly lift your spirit.

There will always be moments or maybe even days when maintaining a good mood requires a little extra effort . A sagging mood can be lifted by simple acts of encouragement. If you feel your day begin to darken try one or more of the following suggestions.

  1. Move away from where you are. If you’re in an office, at a desk, or working inside

    your home walk away from your present location. Take a walk down a hallway just

    to get your circulation going and clear your head. If possible, take a quick walk

    outside.

  2. Keep a book of jokes or humorous stories nearby. Take a moment to read one of

    the jokes or stories and laugh. Really enjoy the laugh.

  3. Listen to some upbeat music. Sing along if you’re alone. Dance if you want to.
  4. Keep photos nearby that make you feel good when you look at them. Take a

    moment to gaze at the photo and enjoy the memory or thoughts associated with

    it.

  5. Indulge in a favorite food. Snack on a healthy piece of dark chocolate without

    feeling guilty. Splurge on a special lunch or dinner.

  6. Spend some time with your pet. Pets are instant mood lifters.
  7. Do something nice for someone. Performing a random act of kindness really will

    make you feel better.

  8. Hum a happy little tune. This sounds simple and maybe silly but it will lift your

    spirit.

  9. Surprise your spouse or partner with an “I love you” call.
