Nlp (Neuro-linguistic Programming): Representational Systems

Representational systems are closely related to our senses.

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming): Representational Systems

Continuing with our NLP explanations, I’ve decided to talk about one of the most important, if not the most important, subject. Representational systems.

Representational systems are channels. Channels through which we perceive the world and our realities. Representational Systems is pretty much another name for our senses.

We can encounter Modalities in our senses. The modalities set is called VAK, which stands for:

Visual: The sense of sight. Everything related to colors, brightness, shapes, etc.

Auditory: Everything related to the hearing. Sounds, tone, volume, etc.

Kinesthetic: Related to the touch. This also includes the gustatory and olfactory modalities. Everything related to feelings and sensations.

People have a certain priority for one representational system at a time (most of the time, sometimes they’re balanced) but they vary depending on the mood and other things.

When you are communicating to someone, it’s important to recognize what channel they prefer at the moment, and to start an elevated state of communication from there. When somebody is visual, you should use words like shiny, bright, etc, when talking about happiness or pretty much anything. Words that will trigger sensations or emotions, for good.

When you learn to recognize representational systems, and use them against potential friends, clients, etc. You will impressively improve your communication skills.
