Separation
This article explains different types of separation.
Separation can last only for a moment or it can last a lifetime. It really depends on the cause, the reasoning for the separation to occur. There are numerous types of separation.
Military Separation- When a service member ( army, navy, etc.) leaves or is discharged from active duty.
Separation Process in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering- When substances are transformed into two or more products, such as oil and water. The oil will float to the top, they do not mix.
Legal Separation- When married couples take time before a divorce to disentangle their finances and/or marital assets and make decisions on custody of children, if any.
Separation of Church and State- This is the secularity of government functions and freedom of religious practices being separated. This was first quoted and used in the United States Supreme Court in 1878. It is now used in many countries.
Separation Anxiety-This comes in different types such as, between a child and parents, a pet and pet owneror a military family member beingon deployment.
There are many definitions of separation. Some examples may be as follows:
Isolation- the separation of oneself from other persons and/or groups
Withdrawal- the separation of participating in activities a person was once involved in
Termination-such as with employment (being fired or laid off), abortion (terminating pregnancy), parental rights (adoption)

Segregation-the separation of persons according to their race, class, religion, ethnic groups, etc.
Disengagement- the process of releasing oneself or an object from something that has hold and/or releasing oneself from an obligation

In most instances, separation can cause a lot of pain. There is short term separation and long term separation.
Short term separation, such as a loved one being hospitalized, is painful. However, in almost all cases it is naturally overcame.
Long term separation, such as death or divorce, are more painful.
There are numerous ways for people to cope with the many different types of separation.People can seek advice from an expert and/or professional counseling.The comfort from family and friends is usually helpful.
Hotlines/Help linesare a good way to talk to someone that is willing to lend an ear in confidence.
There are also support groupsa person can attend or join online, to be with others with the same situation.
People can also spend time helping their community by volunteering.This can keep a person’s mind off of the separation and in the meantime they are helping a good cause.
