Some History Behind Dream Interpretation
Some things about dream interpretation. This is the first part in my dream interpretation journy.
Our dreams can sometimes leave us confused when we wake up. It is a fact that anything can happen in our dreams. We basically live in two worlds, reality and our dream world. People have been trying to figure the meaning to our dreams for centuries. There are even stories in the Bible of people looking for the meanings of dreams.
There has been a lot of different versions of dream interpertations. Most people do believe that there is a depth of emotion and visionary insight that comes with our dreams. It is like something deep in us is letting out some deep forgotten emotion. Plato believed that the liver was the seat of our dreams. Some believe that the last part of our dreams are the most important, because that’s where we finally work out whatever problem there is.
Ancient people believed that dreams where messages from good and bad spirits. Your good dreams from the good spirits, and the bad from the bad, but the Egyptians believed differently. The Egyptians believed that the bad dreams actually meant that times were changing and good times were going.
The Oriental’s had different dream traditions. They believed that the consciousness actually leaves the body and goes to other worldly realms.
Christians actually broke away from the belief that dreams were messages from God, or were life changing messages. Christians believe that their fate is in God’s hands.
Modern dream study actually started with Segmund Freud. Freud was known for his belief that all dreams were of some kind of sexual nature.
In 1953 they identified REM (Rapid Eye Movement) to be tied with dreaming. They actually believe that our most vivid dreams occur during REM.
There have been many new techniques to figure out what really is behind our dreams. Everything people have tried to figure out, or came up with, lead to the making of many dream dictionaries. One thing everyone can agree on is that one has to take the dreamer’s life circumstances into consideration while trying to interpret the dream.
I don’t personnally believe that our dreams are messages, or whatever. I do know that I have some that left me thinking for the whole day.
