Subliminal Messaging: Does It Work?

There are several programs available on the internet that tell you that subliminal messaging is an easy way to lose wait, get better grades, and achieve practically any goal, but does it really work?

Subliminal messaging is the act of sending a message that passes below conscious perception, and communicate with the subconscious, and more importantly, the unconscious mind. Generally, these take form in the shape of messages or pictures flashed for a brief period of time in front of the viewer, fast enough so that the person is generally not able to recognize the phrase, sentence, or image.

There are many programs touted widely on the internet that supposedly give the user an easy way to lose wait, get smarter, appear more confident, as well as having positive psychological affects, but the effect of these programs (which the user generally must purchase after a brief trial period) is doubtful. In many cases, as the user is aware that subliminal messages are being displayed, the effect is simply that of the placebo effect, in which the user believes that they are improving themselves, and through believe alone, they are putting into effect the changes which they want. However, the effect felt is still positive, which may justify using the program itself.

However, scientists are still not clear as to the ramifications of subliminal messaging, as psychology itself is not a precise field, but at times, subliminal messaging has been proven to be an effective method of advertising, and it is now illegal to display subliminal messages in publicly broadcast media.
