T.v Review: Awake

First a summary of the show, and then I will give my opinion on it. No spoilers.

Awake
is the story of a detective, Michael Britten, who is stuck between two very
vivid dreams. His family and him were in an accident and in his dreams one is
alive and the other is dead. In one, his wife is alive and his son has passed
away, and in the other his wife is dead and his son is still alive. Each
reality, or dream, has a different case but they always connect somehow, often
in a name or a company. In each different reality he has a therapist to help
him deal with the grief, as well as try and figure out which reality is real.
He also has a different partner in each reality, which adds even more
difficulties because he has to work side by side with two different people with
two very different styles.

This
is a very interesting concept especially in a detective style show. Most people
like mysteries so that have that going for them, but it takes a whole new spin
on the typical detective show. The cases are a little bland themselves, but
that is not actually what the show is about. The show is about Michael trying
to figure out when he is dreaming and when he is sleeping, the cases are just
something that he does during the show to try and figure out his reality.

Personally,
I had a little trouble getting into the show at first, but it has grown on me.
The first couple episodes are a little hard to get into but it really does
creep up on you that you like it. Since the first season is about half way
through now the show has started to get more into the characters and has become
much more interesting. The first couple shows the two realities, or dreams,
were very distinct and did not cross over very much. As the season goes on the
two realities become intertwined. For the first half of an episode you might be
sure of which reality is real, and then the writers throw in twists and you
have no idea which to believe. I like the reality with his son better because I
just feel like it is more interesting.

Overall
I would give the show a rating of 6.5-7 out of 10.

The
show airs on Thursday nights at 10/9 central on NBC. Check it out, but
definetly watch the first episodes before you watch the newest on.
