Th Alien Invation Nightmare Club

For some strange reason some of us have nightmares about Alien Invasions. Yep, I know it sounds strange, but I am not the only one.

A long time ago I asked my doctor about the same topic that came up in a discussion on Helpme.com. One of my friends worried about having nightmares about Alien invasions. She seemed to feel rather alone in her plight, like I did for the longest time. I thought I was the only one with tendency toward dreaming of aliens.

My doctor seemed slightly amused about this (it may have been the topic of the dreams), and then told me if I spend too much time not being completely asleep I will tend to wake up during the dreams and remember. He said the best time to have these dreams is in the morning just before waking up – that is about the time you get to dream the most nonsense.

Well with me not being the expert and my aliens being nonsense I left it at that. Most of the dreams were gruesome, tiring and in all  upsetting, but they were mine and if that were the only explanation I was going to get, so be it. It is only now, thinking back that I wondering if I should have made more of it. maybe I cold have helped myself and my friend better.

Putting all of the ducks in a row though, I came up with a couple of helpful conclusions.  This is just a few pointers, since I have had nightmares for as long as I could remember. Even the scariest were not scary to me anymore. I kinda miss them though. You see, the first thing I noticed though was that when my life were at its most troubled, the dreaming were at its best. This goes back to the doctors answer. A troubled life leads to not sleeping properly, which in turn means waking up more often in the night and more often in the middle of a dream.

The content of the dreams also seemed to be related to what happened in my life (Aliens; really…). No I didn’t get to meet aliens. I simply meant that the more pressure I had in some areas of my life the more the content changed. Its silly things. While things were bad, I spent a lot of time being chased in my dreams, and not only by aliens. Then I started really focusing on my relationship with my wife and suddenly she were in the dreams to. While I were always ahead in the chase on my own we were now ahead in the chase together, working as a team.

As more areas of my life came under control the scale of violence also receded. When things were really bad there were always innocent bystanders  in the dreams being hacked to pieces or burned. This changed with my changing reality. As the plans for how to tackle my problems in life came more into focus our little team in the dream Started collecting the innocent bystanders in the dreams and started leading them.Keeping them safe ahead of the chase.

Things in real life started falling int place and the chase in the dreams became less violent and the enemy we flee from less clear. Then real life advanced to the point that no worries woke me at night. I slept all night without being bothered about dreams. I thought we were all done. Maybe we weren’t…

I sill get waked up at night on occasion, but ten it is the dog barking or some family member knocking on my window. Most times it is interrupting a dream. Almost always it is weird stuff – not  always violent though.

So why the Aliens. I’m still working on that one. They don’t seem so bothersome anymore though.
